Elon Musk Officially Declared the World’s Richest Man
In news that doesn’t come as a surprise, tech magnate Elon Musk is now the world’s richest man. The Tesla and SpaceX founder has disposed of Amazon’s Jeff Bezos to take out the top spot on the world’s rich list.
As Bloomberg reported, Telsa’s shares soared 7.9% last week, hurtling Musk past Bezos on the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. Musk is worth a reported $188.5, which is $1.5 billion more than Bezos’ current estimated wealth. This is the first time since October 2017 that someone has surpassed Bezos’ wealth.
It’s been a fast ascent to the top for Musk, who entered 2020 as just the 35th richest man in the world. The South African born entrepreneur has changed the face of Silicon Valley with his out-there ideas and desire to colonize Mars. A demand for Telsa cars last year resulted in the brand’s stock price soaring by 743%. The company now has a market value of $773.5 billion, making it bigger than Facebook.
Musk wasn’t all that fussed when he heard the news. After discovering his new status as the richest man on earth via the Telsa Owners Twitter account, Musk replied, “How strange.” He followed this up with, “Well… back to work.”

Telsa shares now sit at $880 per share, with many analysts predicting they will reach $1,000 late this year. Musk’s rise has also been helped by Bezos personal problems, with the Amazon head losing roughly $38 billion in his divorce from MacKenzie Scott.
With Musk’s fortune set to grow, it’s only a matter of time before we are all living on Mars.
