Rolex is always looking for new ways to present innovative yet sleek and elegant timepieces. Of course, they never disappoint. In 2011, the Rolex Platinum Diamond Pearlmaster hit the market to rave reviews and cost $277,850. The limited edition Pearlmaster is part of the rare Day-Date collection.

It boasts two large diamonds at six and nine o’clock with a silver dial in a platinum case. However, the highlight of the luxury timepiece is the meteorite diamonds on the custom bezel. Indeed, it features 42 dazzling diamonds, which makes it one of the most expensive Rolex watches. 

13. 1972 James Bond Rolex Submariner – $365,000

James Bond’s 1972 Rolex Submariner is the most expensive Rolex watch that can’t tell time. The stunning timepiece sold for an unbelievable $365,000 at the 2015 Philips auction. Roger Moore wore the watch as James Bond in the 1973 classic Live and Let Die. The Rolex Submariner consists of stainless steel with a black dial and “Roger Mooe 007” engraved on the back.

However, the production crew modified the Rolex so much it’s just an expensive prop now. Still, the gorgeous watch stole the show twice in the film. First, the film changed the bezel to a buzzsaw, which Bond uses to cut a rope. At another point, he unzips Mrs. Caruso’s dress using the Rolex’s magnetic power. 

12. Rolex Sea-Dweller – $414,000

Rolex often created custom timepieces for celebrities, sports stars, and the wealthiest watch collectors. Indeed, the Sulton of Oman loved watches and was an enthusiastic collector. In 1977, the company made the Golden Khanjar Sea-Dweller Rolex for Sultan Qaboos bin Said al Said.

The unique watch has Oman’s national emblem, the Khanjar, engraved on the dial at the six o’clock position. It matches the white coronet at the noon position. The expensive Rolex sold for an incredible $414,000. 

11. Rolex Oyster Perpetual – $440,000

The stunning Oyster Perpetual Rolex is the first to feature 18-karat gold instead of the traditional stainless steel. Indeed, this dial boasts black, blue, and yellow colors to compliment the large gold numbers. In 1950, the first President of India, Dr. Rajendra Prasad, received the expensive Rolex as a gift on the country’s first republic day.

Rolex engraved the date and a map of India connecting with Nepal and Afghanistan on the dial. However, the $440,00 Rolex disappeared from the Prasad family watch collection and showed up at the Sotheby’s auction in 2011. The family was able to stop the sale of the watch through petition. 

10. Rolex GMT Master II Ice – $485,350

During the 14th Dubai International Sports Conference, iconic footballer Cristiano Ronaldo stole the spotlight with his dazzling Rolex GMT Master II Ice. It comes in an 18-karat white gold oyster case with 30 carats of sparkling diamonds. Plus, the dial features a striking gold and diamond pattern.

It also boasts a waterproof case with a GMT 24-hour time zone dial. The Rolex Master Ice is one of the most expensive Rolex watches of the last few years. Indeed, the stunning timepiece goes for $485,350.

Few timepieces compare to the sleek and gorgeous Rolex Gold watch. In 2015, the expensive Rolex sold for a shocking $895,000. The stunning Rolex hit the market in 1950 and comes in stainless steel yellow gold with a water-resistant oyster case.

It was also the first automatic Rolex to have a triple calendar, moon phase, day, and date display. The highlight of the vintage timepiece is the small star hour markers. Indeed, watch collectors gave it the nickname Stelline, which translates to small star. 

8. Jack Nicklaus Rolex Day-Date – $1.2 Million

World-renowned pro golfer Jack Nicklaus wore his expensive Rolex Day-Date watch when he won 12 of 18 PGA world championships. The stylish watch comes in an 18-karat yellow gold case on a President bracelet. It’s also the first watch to have the date and day display spelled out on the dial.

Speaking of the dial, it comes in a rare pie-pan color with baton hour markers resembling golf trees. In 1967, Rolex gifted the timepiece to Nicklaus, and he wore it for the next 50 years during every competition. In 2019, Nicklaus’ Rolex Day-Date sold at the Philips auction house for $1.2 million, with all proceeds going to the Nicklaus Children’s Health Care Foundation.

It’s a simple black watch with glowing hour markers and hands with a golden shine. It doesn’t include the bezel, as Coppola asked Brando to remove it during filming. The 1942 Rolex Antimagnetique is so rare that only 12 watches are still around today. At that time, Rolex was heavily involved with racing and offered the Antimagentique as a gift to winning teams. The stunning stainless steel timepiece comes in a large 44 m case with pink-colored Arabic and baton hour markers. It also boasts a blue telemeter and black tachymeter scale on the dial.

In 2013, the gorgeous vintage watch sold for $1.16 million at Christie’s auction house. However, three years later, the watch increased in value and sold for an impressive $2.5 million at Philips auction house in Switzerland.

4. Rolex Bao Dai – $5.1 Million

In 2017, the slick Bao Dai Rolex sold at Phillips auction house for a mind-blowing $5.1 million. This particular Rolex is dubbed “The Keeper of Greatness” and is only one of three versions created. However, this Bao Dai is the only one to feature diamond markers around the black dial. The rare Rolex comes in a gold oyster case with a full calendar.

It also has a fascinating backstory that starts in the 1950s. The first owner of the expensive Rolex Bao Dai was the last emperor of Vietnam, Nguyễn Phúc Vĩnh Thụy. The timepiece remained in the family for decades until they sold it in 2002.

Throughout movie history, many celebrities have rocked a stylish and expensive Rolex. However, Hollywood legend Paul Newman is synonymous with the Rolex brand. Indeed, several of his Rolex watches have sold for an astronomical price.

In 2020, Paul Newman’s Daytona or Big Red sold for $5.4 million at an auction hosted by Aurel Bacs. Newman proudly wore the Rolex for 25 years. His wife, Joanna Woodward, gifted the vintage Rolex Daytona to her husband with the engraving, “Drive Slowly, Joanna.” In 2008, Newman’s daughter Clea received the watch as a gift. Eventually, Clea allowed her father’s watch to go up for sale at the auction.

The sleek and rare Rolex also has 18,000 beats-per-hour movements.

Newman’s wife, Joanne Woodward, gifted him the Rolex and engraved it with “Drive Carefully Me.” Paul Newman often wore the stunning Rolex while racing and in several films, most notably, in the 1969 movie Winning. Owning a designer item strikes a balance between status and authenticity. 

So what are the most popular luxury brands? Alexander McQueen? Yves Saint Laurent? Ralph Lauren? While this is up for debate, Brand Directory, which calculates and evaluates the earnings of the biggest brands in the world, has a good idea. Every year they release their list of the best luxury companies based on how much money they make and each company’s monetary valuation. Taking their research into account, here are the 10 most popular brands in the world.

1. Porsche – $34.3 Billion

The German automobile brand reigns supreme at the top of the charts. Despite the challenges of the past couple of years, Porsche has managed to thrive and continue its dominance as one of the world’s top luxury brands. The brand value is an astonishing $34.3 million.

First established in 1931 in Stuttgart, Germany, Porsche quickly became a leader in the automotive field. It’s also one of the biggest global brands thanks to its luxury branding strategy. The company’s 911 model is perhaps its most famous vehicle and dominated the market during the 80s and 90s. Notable for its luxury sports cars, Porsche now offers SUVs, sedans, and electric cars. The Porsche Taycan (electric car) has become a particularly big hit with those looking for a luxurious car that’s also environmentally friendly. 

2. Gucci – $15.5 Billion

The epitome of luxury fashion, Gucci remains the world’s top fashion brand and second-biggest luxury brand in the world. There is a sizable gap between Porsche and Gucci, and this has been widened over the past year. A 22.7% drop in sales has seen the Italian fashion house’s valuation dip from $17.6 billion in 2020 to $15.5 billion in 2021. It’s fair to say the pandemic hit the company hard. While having luxury clothes is great, if you can’t wear them out and impress people there isn’t much point.

Despite this blip, the company created by Guccio Gucci looks set to rebound this year as one of the biggest luxury brands. Although facing competition from the likes of Giorgio Armani, Calvin Klein, Bottega Veneta, Tom Ford, and other popular fashion designers, Gucci is putting its best foot forward. The brand’s latest collection is a collaboration with adidas, while The North Face x Gucci selection of garments and accessories has been a big seller. 

3. Louis Vuitton – $14.8 Billion

Similar to great rival Gucci, Louis Vuitton also took a hit over the past 12 months. The high-end French retailer did manage to keep its grip on the third spot of the world’s best luxury brands, despite a slip in its overall valuation. The brand itself comes under the Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton (LVMH) conglomeration, which was a merger between the two companies in 1987. The resources afforded to both companies allowed them to flourish and cement their status as leading luxury brands.

With over 460 stores worldwide in 50 different countries, it is fair to say Louis Vuitton has a stranglehold on the luxury brand market. Its brand management is unheralded and its advertising campaigns are some of the most efficient. Known originally for its famous trunks and luggage accessories, the brand now dabbles in clothing, shoes, watches, sunglasses, and more. 

Trivia fact: Louis Vuitton made much of its early fortune via deals with the Nazis during World War II. 

4. Chanel – $13.2 Billion

Chanel actually managed to jump up a spot, rising from fifth to fourth in 2021. Its brand value is now worth an estimated $13.2 billion. Another French fashion house, the company was founded in 1910 by Coco Chanel. Its focus was women’s clothing and accessories, but over the years this has diversified to men’s clothing, jewelry, and other luxury goods. The brand really came to the fore in the 80s when Karl Lagerfeld took over as creative designer. The German merged the past with the future to bring Chanel into the 21st century. He held the position until his death in 2019 at the age of 85.

Along with clothing, Chanel is popular thanks to Chanel No. 5. The fragrance was created in 1921 and remains a key to the success of Chanel. Many of the ad campaigns for the fragrance have featured famous celebrities, such as Nicole Kidman and Marilyn Monroe, with French actress Marion Cotillard the current face of the perfume. 

5. Cartier – $12 Billion

The third French brand on this list is also one of the oldest, forming in 1847. It is regarded as one of the world’s top jewelry manufacturers and has a long history with royalty. Throughout the company’s 175 year history it has crafted jewels for the British, Spanish, Portuguese, Serbian, and Russian monarchs. Along with its jewelry, Cartier is also known for its watches. The first was released in 1903 and was created for pilots. Since then there have been dozens of different iterations of that first watch, with Cartier timepieces oozing sophistication and prestige. 

6.  Hermès – $11.6 Billion

This iconic French luxury brand had another great year, cementing its spot in the top 10 with a valuation of $11.6 billion. Beginning life selling high-quality leather saddles in 1837, it wasn’t until 1922 that Hermès branched out into the world of fashion, slinging its very first leather handbags. These became extremely popular and the brains behind the brand realized there was another market for them to capitalize on. The Hermès carrés (square scarves) became a hit in 1937 and was soon a part of French culture. It was also during the 30s when Hermès got into business with Swiss watchmaker Universal Genève and released its first timepiece. It has 14 product departments and continues to dominate the luxury brands market from New York to London and everywhere in between. 

7. Ferrari – $9.2 Billion

Ferrari is the only other car manufacturer to crack the top 10, although that shouldn’t be a surprise. The brand is one of the most recognized car brands in the world. From its famous prancing horse logo to its involvement in the Formula One, Ferrari has been a mainstay in car culture for over 80 years. 

While it pales in comparison to Porsche, the market for the two companies is slightly different. While Porsche has entered the hybrid era and is creating luxury cars for families, Ferrari retains its heritage as a brand for pure motor enthusiasts. Its cars are often much more expensive than other brands, helping Ferrari’s image as a luxury brand. There are five main models of Ferrari available, with special and limited editions always being built for diehard fans. 

8. Rolex – $7.9 Billion

The only watchmaker on the list is also one of the most recognized. Rolex has been responsible for some of the most spectacular watches ever crafted over its 117-year history. It is the definition of a popular luxury brand. Although founded in England, the brand now resides in Switzerland. It is responsible for several breakthroughs in watch construction over the years. Interestingly, Rolex watches were worn by many pilots during World War II and featured in the famous war film The Great Escape. 

There are three main watch lines–Oyster Perpetual, Professional, and Cellini (dress)–with each having a number of different models. Rolex watches have become so popular that there is a whole industry built on fake Rolex’s. Many people don’t even realize they have purchased a fake, so it is always best when buying a Rolex to do so from an accredited dealership. 

9. Dior – $7.8 Billion

Dior is incredibly valued at a higher price than last year. In 2020 it was worth $6.8 billion, while in 2021 this rose to $7.8 billion. Another French luxury fashion house, Dior’s main focus is clothing and shoes, although they also sell a wide range of other luxury goods. The company’s first collection was launched in 1947 and had a huge impact on the fashion world. The ‘New Look,’ as it is known, revolutionized women’s clothing and put an emphasis on feminity, haute couture, and fashion-forward garments. While not everybody is a fan, Coco Chanel reportedly remarked, “Only a man who never was intimate with a woman could design something that uncomfortable,” there is no doubting the impact ‘New Look’ and Dior has had on the fashion industry. 

10. Guerlain – $5.6 Billion

One of the big movers, Guerlain pole-vaulted past Coach, Estée Lauder, and Tiffany & Co. to sneak into the top 10. It is one of the lesser-known luxury brands despite its high valuation in the luxury segment. The French perfumery was owned and run by the Guerlain family until it was purchased by LVMH in 1994. Brand manager Jean-Paul Guerlain, the last family perfumer, stayed on with the company until he was fired for making racist remarks in 2010.

The company has created over 600 fragrances across its 192-year history in the luxury market for both men and women. Along with its perfumes, Guerlain also has a large range of cosmetic and skincare products. Many models and actresses have been part of advertising campaigns for the brand over the years, with Angelina Jolie the current face of Guerlain. 

Plan Ahead

Being unprepared is a surefire way to cause yourself stress. We’re not suggesting creating a minute-by-minute schedule to follow. This is Christmas, not the Marines. But planning ahead will help to manage stress and take stressful thoughts out of the actual day, leaving you no choice but to enjoy yourself.  

There are dozens of Christmas details to plan, and it’s important to consider the ones that could cause the most stress. If you’re hosting this year, plan your meal at least a week in advance, and buy the food as soon as you have your menu. Prepare any side dishes or desserts ahead of time, and call your grandma if you’re not sure which ones those are. 

It’s a good idea to buy your gifts in advance as well. At the very least, have an idea of what you’d like to buy, and get to the store or create a wish list. Make sure your gifts are purchased before the holiday festivities begin, so you can enjoy gift giving and avoid getting stuck with the gifts no one else wanted to buy. 

Know where you’re going and when on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. If your holiday looks a little more like Four Christmases than A Christmas Story, and you’ll be traveling from house to house, plan when you’ll arrive and when you’ll leave, and know what you’re expected to bring. Sort your gifts and food by location when packing your car, so you’re not sifting through your trunk in every driveway missing out more and more of the festivities. Make notes if you have to. The preparation might be tedious, but it’ll save you stress on the big day. 

Make Time for Your Favorite Traditions

Part of the stress of Christmas is seeing to obligations we don’t enjoy. We all have to exchange gifts with a cousin we don’t like, and no family gathering is complete without an in-law who starts a fight. Some of these occurrences are no longer a matter of if, but when, and we have to endure. To relieve some of the pain, indulge in at least one of your favorite traditions to bring joy to Christmas.

Pour yourself a cup of cocoa and turn on your favorite movie. Take a picture of you and your siblings in matching pajamas by the tree. Whatever it is that makes you happy and nostalgic, do it. It’ll give you something to look forward to and take your mind off the prior or impending stress.

If you don’t have a favorite tradition, start one. Find something to make your day merry and bright. 

Set Boundaries

Speaking of families, many of us find at least some members to be a major source of stress. Some relatives are tolerable, but others are truly bad for our mental health, causing anxiety beyond the point of stress. There isn’t enough spiked eggnog in the world to put up with some people, and if that’s the case, set boundaries to avoid an unhealthy situation. 

Boundaries look different for everyone. What’s most important is that you’re comfortable. Your boundary might be greeting your stress-inducing relative and saying nothing more to them the entire day. Your boundary might be attending the get-together for an hour then celebrating with friends. Your boundary might even be foregoing the Christmas reunion altogether. You’ve got to do what’s best for you, and create beneficial boundaries to remain calm and happy on the holiday.

Do Something Kind

This time of year is depressing for many, and one way to relieve stress and feel good about yourself is by doing something kind for another person. Volunteer organizations are constantly looking for help during the holiday season, and there’s bound to be something you enjoy doing that’ll help someone else, even if it’s just for the evening. 

Volunteer with the Salvation Army and collect donations. Purchase Christmas gifts for a family that can’t afford them. Serve a meal at a homeless shelter. Buy someone’s coffee at Starbucks. There are countless ways to spread holiday cheer, and they’ll all bring you just as much joy as the people you’re helping. 

Take a Trip

Christmas doesn’t have to be spent at home, and gifts don’t have to be tangible items. If Christmas is really too stressful to handle with the relatives, or you just want to get away, book a trip over the holidays. It can be a quick three-day getaway to a cabin in the snow or a ten-day luxury vacation in the tropics. There’s no bad way to travel, and it can be a huge dopamine burst.

The first Twin Turbo Furious took the world by storm in 2016 at Baselworld. It was celebrated for being the world’s first watch to combine two triple-axis tourbillons and a minute repeater. 

Today, people still respect the construction of the watches as they provide a quick way to compare two elapsed times. The pit board is supposed to reflect the tie to the car world.
