The perpetual sunshine and mild temperatures, the sparkling sea, the expansive sandy beaches, the slushy drinks adorned with tiny umbrellas, the “island time” that invites you to slow down and (quite literally) soak it all up… they’re the perfect ingredients for a dreamy tropical getaway.

Whether you’re ready to book your next beach vacation today or you’re just “window shopping” for a future bucket list trip, these destinations are sure to inspire your tropical-themed wanderlust. Shh – if you close your eyes for a moment, you can almost feel your toes in the sand and hear the ocean breeze.

Stunning Tropical Islands Around The World

There are absolutely gorgeous tropical islands dotting every section of the world, some famous and some little-known. Some offer up non-stop adventure, while some invite you to do nothing more than relax. Some islands have distinct cultures of their own, and others are melting pots of influence from all over the world. Whatever your unique island style is, you’re sure to find the perfect fit on this list of tropical islands.

1. St. Lucia, Caribbean

St.-Lucia-Caribbean

The Caribbean is an iconic tropical vacation destination, and the island of St. Lucia doesn’t disappoint. Topping several lists of the most romantic places in the world, St. Lucia is quiet and truly dreamy. The island has white sand and volcanic black sand beaches, both of which are pristine and seem to stretch on forever. Towering above are the instantly recognizable Pitons, twin volcanoes that taper dramatically at their peaks. Yes, you can hike them – but hire a local to guide you, as the ascent is steep and muddy.

Best time to visit: May and June are the best months to visit St. Lucia, between the busy tourism season (December through April) and hurricane season, which starts in mid-to-late July and lasts through fall.

Where to stay: For the best views, you absolutely must stay at Sugar Beach. It sits on a historic former sugar plantation right between the peaks of the Pitons and boasts a spa tucked right into the rainforest.

2. Turks and Caicos

Turks-and-Caicos

If beaches are your priority, it doesn’t get much better than Turks and Caicos. Northeast of Cuba in the Bahamas Archipelago, Turks and Caicos is home to the world’s best beaches. That’s not just our opinion; the islands’ beaches consistently rank near the top of travel industry “best beaches” lists. Surprisingly, Turks and Caicos is still a largely uncrowded hidden gem, often overlooked in favor of its extremely popular neighbors including the Bahamas, Jamaica, and the Dominican Republic.

Best time to visit: Hurricane season lasts from June through November, which brings heavy rains even in mild years. Try to plan a spring visit, when you’ll find fewer crowds and lower prices than winter.

Where to stay: Unique to Turks and Caicos, there aren’t many tourist attractions. Instead, the beaches are the main attraction, which means you’ll want to splurge on a hotel on or near the best ones. The Sands at Grace Bay delivers, with an ideal location and complimentary loaner bicycles.

3. Bali, Indonesia

Bali-Indonesia

One of the most well-known islands in Indonesia, Bali is just as much a top spiritual and wellness destination as it is a tropical paradise. Bali’s beaches and surfing are world-renowned, but so are its 20,000-plus temples and thousands of spas and yoga studios. The Balinese locals are also some of the most gentle and welcoming people you’ll ever meet, completing the perfectly laid-back vibe. Stay in Seminyak for a mixture of great beaches and busy shops and restaurants, or choose Ubud for a more secluded getaway.

Best time to visit: Hurricanes don’t hit Bali, but the island does experience a distinct rainy season. To avoid it, visit from April through October.

Where to stay: One of the best things about Bali is that it’s almost shockingly affordable. Stay at the stunning Padma Resort Ubud, with infinity pools overlooking the rainforest, for well under $200 a night.

4. Maui, Hawaii

Maui-Hawaii

Maui is perhaps the most accessible of the tropical islands on our list. Aside from being in the U.S., it has a fairly large airport with numerous flights arriving from around the world daily. It also truly has something to offer everyone, from secluded beaches and adrenaline-pumping hikes to epic road trips and world-class snorkeling and diving. The Road to Hana, in particular, is not to be missed and ideally, you should allow a full day to drive the entire route.

Best time to visit: Maui enjoys fantastic weather year-round, so that isn’t a concern when deciding to visit. For the best chance of spotting migrating mama humpback whales with their babies (calves), visit from January through March.

Where to stay: The oceanfront Grand Wailea Resort is in Wailea-Makena, an area of south Maui that feels more authentic than other parts of the island. Enjoy posh accommodations, several pools (including one with a Tarzan swing over it!), and nearby shops and restaurants.

5. Aruba

Aruba-Tropical-Island

Aruba is an iconic Caribbean island with several tranquil beaches, plenty of adventurous activities (kitesurfing, anyone?), and fascinating history (with the architecture and Dutch-influenced cuisine to prove it!). It’s also secluded from most other Caribbean islands, just 20 miles north of Venezuela in the far southern part of the Caribbean Sea. That means crowds are generally a little thinner in Aruba, allowing you to enjoy more of everything the island has to offer, from scuba diving to exploring the island in an ATV and – literally – everything in between.

Best time to visit: Aruba sits far outside the “hurricane belt,” so weather-wise, there’s really no bad time to visit. From April through September, you’ll find substantially lower prices on accommodations.

Where to stay: For the perfect balance of authentic Caribbean culture, historical landmarks, and easy access to both restaurants and beaches, choose the Renaissance Aruba Wind Creek Resort.

6. St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands

St.-Croix-U.S.-Virgin-Islands

St. Croix is one of just three U.S. Virgin Islands (the neighboring British Virgin Islands comprise more than 50 individual islands). Despite having a cruise port, St. Croix is almost entirely void of anything touristy and feels like a “locals-only” island – and that’s a very good thing. Prices are shockingly reasonable, traffic and lines are practically non-existent, and there are rarely crowds anywhere.

Best time to visit: Plan your trip for winter or spring, when the weather is calm and chances of storms are at a minimum. Although few hurricanes actually hit St. Croix, the best chances coincide with the rainy season from July through October.

Where to stay: Hotel on the Cay is just a (literal) two-minute ferry ride from downtown Christiansted and it has its own private beach. Snorkel from the shore, listen to live music several nights a week and enjoy proximity to the marina, where most excursions leave from.

7. Phuket, Thailand

Phuket-Thailand

Seeking an exotic tropical destination that won’t strain your budget too much? Look no further than Phuket, Thailand’s largest island. Here, even the highest-end resorts have notably affordable price tags – but they’re certainly not lacking in amenities. Enjoy pristine beaches, boat tours, visiting Buddhist temples, and sampling famously flavorful (and often spicy!) Thai food on Phuket, and easily visit several neighboring islands, including the famous James Bond Island.

Best time to visit: The best time to travel to Phuket is in the winter, when it rains very little and there’s plenty of sunshine. May through October is monsoon season, where it frequently storms.

Where to stay: Karon Sea Sands Resort puts you directly on one of the nicest beaches in Phuket, with easy access to restaurants, beach bars, and shops.

8. Bora Bora, Tahiti

Bora-Bora-Tahiti

It doesn’t get much more quintessentially tropical than Bora Bora, in French Polynesia. This extremely remote, dramatically landscaped island combines luxury accommodations, strong cultural influences, and both water and land adventures. Hike, go kayaking, dive with sharks, and indulge in gourmet French-inspired cuisine. Bora Bora is one of the most expensive destinations in the world, largely because of its remoteness, but it’s well worth it as a bucket list, once-in-a-lifetime trip.

Best time to visit: Hurricanes are exceedingly rare in Tahiti, but the wettest (and buggiest!) season is from December through March. November and April are best in terms of having the fewest crowds.

Where to stay: There isn’t a single bad place to stay in Bora Bora. However, you may as well go all-out on your accommodations and stay in one of the glass-bottom over-water bungalows at Le Meridien Bora Bora.

9. Palawan, Philippines

Palawan-Philippines

Locals and those fortunate enough to visit know the Philippines is home to some of the most unspoiled beaches in the world. For the most part, though, Palawan is a truly underrated destination. Soaring limestone cliffs frame white sand beaches and the water is so clear, locals joke that you can see the fish’s facial expressions. The real star of the show on Palawan is the Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Best time to visit: Like many tropical islands, Palawan has distinct dry and rainy seasons. December through May is the dry season when you can enjoy the beach, hike, and visit the subterranean river (it frequently closes due to flooding in heavy rain).

Where to stay: Flower Island Resort is on one end of Palawan, secluded enough that it feels as if you’re hours from civilization. Individual bungalows are crafted from indigenous materials and everything is solar-powered, but it’s also top-tier luxury.

10. Roatan, Honduras

Roatan-Honduras

Roatan is well-known as a top diving destination, as it’s home to the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef, the second-largest (and one of the healthiest) in the world. However, outside of diving, Roatan is a largely little-known destination. That doesn’t mean there aren’t things to do besides diving – on the contrary, Roatan is packed with adventure and leisure activities. Hike, snorkel, ride horses, enjoy yoga, kayak, go sailing, or simply lounge on the sand.

Best time to visit: Dry season officially runs from February to June, when the chances of hurricanes and tropical storms are lowest. Consider visiting in December or January, the “shoulder season,” for the fewest crowds and lowest prices.

Where to stay: Situated on West Bay, one of the nicest beaches in the Caribbean (let alone Roatan!), Villa Topaz is a group of high-end vacation rentals. There are one to six-bedroom options, most with private pools.

11. Culebra, Puerto Rico

Culebra-Puerto-Rico

Puerto Rico as a whole is a wonderful choice for a tropical island getaway, but Culebra especially stands out. The small, almost completely untouched island is 20 miles east of mainland Puerto Rico and features 10 sparkling beaches. Over 20% of the island is dedicated to wildlife preserves and a refuge, largely protecting it from much commercial development. The food on Culebra alone is reason enough to visit, a perfect mixture of Caribbean flavors and spicy Spanish-influenced cuisine.

Best time to visit: Spring is the best time to visit Culebra when the weather is near-perfect and the winter crowds have thinned out considerably.

Where to stay: One of the best things about Culebra is there are no chain hotels. Instead, you’ll find charming boutique inns like Club Seabourne, which offer proximity to beaches and town as well as loads of amenities.

12. Nevis

Nevis-Tropical-Island

Last but certainly not least is tiny Nevis, the smaller of two islands comprising the single country of Saint Kitts and Nevis. The island has some of the longest, most pristine beaches in the Caribbean, plus proper mountains and a lively culture. When you’re not relaxing on the beach, snorkeling, or splashing in the sea, hike 3,232-foot Nevis Peak, go on an ATV tour, play golf, or sample your way through the island’s globally-inspired restaurants.

Best time to visit: Dry season on Nevis is December through June, and the Christmas season through February is one of the busiest times. To strike a good balance of low prices and fewer tourists, visit from April to June.

Where to stay: Choose The Hermitage Nevis for an authentic “old Caribbean” experience. The beautifully preserved historic gingerbread cottages and lush rainforest setting transport you to instant relaxation. The hotel’s rum punch is also said to be the best on the island.

The 10 Best American Romantic Getaways https://nextluxury.com/food-travel/romantic-getaways-in-usa/ Tue, 27 Jul 2021 19:00:50 +0000 https://nextluxury.com/?p=246233 …]]> If you’re in any sort of committed relationship, taking a romantic getaway together is a wonderful way to keep the romance alive. This is true whether you just met a new love interest or you’re celebrating an anniversary in the double digits. There’s just nothing quite like connecting over new experiences in beautiful, romantic settings.

Maybe spending a weekend lounging by the pool or being pampered in the spa is your definition of romance. Perhaps you’d rather eat and sip your way around a destination, or maybe your style is more hiking and exploring a new destination together. Whatever it is you’re hoping to experience, there are plenty of romantic getaways in the U.S. to choose from.

1. Asheville, North Carolina

Asheville-North-Carolina

Something about the mountains, cozy log cabins, brisk mornings, and Southern food just screams “romantic getaway.” Asheville, located in western North Carolina near the Tennessee border, combines all these things (and much more) in a picture-perfect setting. Head to this beautiful little mountain town for a romantic getaway filled with hiking, spectacular sunsets, scenic drives, spa treatments, or a little of everything.

Asheville is the perfect basecamp for experiencing both the Blue Ridge Parkway and Great Smoky Mountains National Park. You could easily spend all your time here exploring, but don’t overlook some of the in-town offerings. Tour the Biltmore Estate, the largest home in America, then watch the sunset as you dine at the aptly named Omni Grove Park Inn Sunset Terrace. Wind your weekend down by hopping around to some of the local breweries to find out why Asheville is known as Beer City USA.

Where to stay: You can’t go wrong with renting a cabin or even a treehouse in Asheville’s mountains (seriously, is there anything more romantic?!). If you prefer to be closer to all the action downtown, consider the historic Hayward Park Hotel, with its oversized suites and champagne welcome.

2. Wine Country, California

Wine-Country-California

It’s hard to top California Wine Country when it comes to romantic getaways – even if you’re not wine drinkers. There’s world-class food and romantic wineries, of course, but there’s also beautiful scenery, intimate accommodations, luxurious spas, and plenty of ways to be active. The hardest part of a Wine Country getaway is simply deciding where to stay and what to do.

For the most part, Wine Country is divided into Napa and Sonoma. There are dozens of smaller communities that comprise Wine Country, but the bulk of what you’ll want to see and do is concentrated in these two areas. While Napa and Sonoma are right next to one another, they have distinctly different vibes. Napa is slightly more famous, which means it’s often busier, and Sonoma is noticeably more laid-back. If possible, split your stay between both.

Where to stay: Especially if you want to visit both Sonoma and Napa, it may be smart to stay slightly out of town. Farmhouse Inn in Forestville, just over an hour from both, puts you in an ideal location for exploring, plus it’s incredibly romantic and luxurious. The intimate B&B is nestled among giant redwood trees along the Russian River and not far from the coast.

3. Park City, Utah

Park-City-Utah

Park City may be known primarily as a skiing and snowboarding destination, but it’s perfect for a romantic getaway in any season. In addition to the winter sports and outdoor adventure Park City is so well-known for, the town itself is charming and quaint, there are dozens of incredible restaurants, you can indulge in pampering spa treatments, and then there’s the jaw-dropping scenery.

For a romantic getaway in Park City in the winter, you absolutely have to hit the slopes. Whether you’re a first-timer or a veteran, you’ll find runs perfectly suited to your comfort level and abilities. As alternatives, you can also rent snowmobiles or even go for a bobsled ride at Utah Olympic Park. In the summer, check out Park City’s hiking trails, try fly fishing, play a round of golf, or go for a romantic horseback ride.

Where to stay: In any season, one of the most romantic hotels in Park City is Stein Eriksen Lodge Deer Valley. Enjoy ski-in, ski-out access to Deer Valley Ski Resort in the winter, lodge-style rooms, a top-rated spa, and an outdoor pool that’s open year-round.

4. Mackinac Island, Michigan

Mackinac-Island-Michigan

Doesn’t taking a horse-drawn carriage around a scenic island sound romantic? Now add in sampling freshly-made fudge, walking around to eclectic shops, watching the sunset, and retiring for the night to a boutique inn. You can experience all that and more on Michigan’s Mackinac Island, located way up north on Lake Huron near the Canadian border.

One of the most unique things about visiting Mackinac Island is that cars aren’t allowed on the island. There are literally no cars, including taxis or rideshares – just pedestrians, bicycles, and horses. And their carriages. Rent bikes, hire a carriage, or kayak to Sunset Rock, then make your way over to Fort Holmes, the island’s highest point, for incredible stargazing.

Where to stay: The historic Island House Hotel truly looks like something right out of a storybook. Its waterfront location provides unparalleled views and it’s super close to downtown, but the setting is incredibly peaceful and relaxing. There’s even a Romance Package that includes dinner in the famed 1852 Grill Room and chilled sparkling wine.

5. Sedona, Arizona

Sedona-Arizona

Literally, everything about Sedona is romantic. The gorgeous, iconic red rock formations, the laid-back pace of life, the clear desert night skies, the focus on wellness, the dimly-lit restaurants, the adventure… all of it. Whatever sort of vibe you’re seeking for your romantic getaway, Sedona is a wonderful option.

Imagine starting the day with a sunrise hike to Airport Mesa, then indulging in a healing spa treatment and leisurely lunch uptown. Later in the afternoon, pack some snacks and check out one of the area’s natural swimming holes (you’ll have to ask some locals about their favorite spots – Sedona is full of secret spots!). Enjoy dinner with wine and live music, and then find a spot just outside of town to stargaze.

Where to stay: Sedona is full of upscale hotels and sprawling resorts. A Sunset Chateau isn’t one of them, but that’s a very good thing. You’ll be treated to personalized service and details that only come with staying in a boutique property, plus sweeping views of Sedona and luxury amenities. Relax in your spacious suite or soak up some rays by the saltwater pool and enjoy direct access to tennis courts and hiking trails, including Airport Mesa.

6. New Orleans, Louisiana

New-Orleans-Louisiana

We know, “The Big Easy” doesn’t sound particularly romantic. But how about an unrivaled food and cocktail culture? Or vibrant nightlife, one of the best music scenes in the entire world, iconic architecture, or a city history that may or may not be just a bit haunted? Now that all sounds like the perfect recipe for a romantic getaway. It’s nearly impossible to not feel sparks flying as you and your sweetheart walk hand-in-hand through the French Quarter, sipping cocktails and stopping to watch street performers.

Fun fact: it’s perfectly legal – encouraged, even – to walk around with alcoholic beverages in NOLA. Book a swamp tour or steamboat cruise for a thoroughly romantic outing, New Orleans-style, and commit to ignoring calories during your time here. Every single one is worth it.

Where to stay: If you’re looking for an authentically New Orleans hotel for your romantic getaway, look no further than Hotel Peter and Paul. The converted Marigny hotel was once a church and school, and today resides in four separate buildings. No two rooms are alike, but all have romantic touches including canopy beds, antique furniture, and claw-foot tubs. When you want to venture out, walk to Frenchmen Street, where you’ll find a string of legendary live music venues.

7. Jackson Hole, Wyoming

Jackson-Hole-Wyoming

Jackson Hole is one of the most naturally beautiful places on Earth, which is reason enough to call it an ideal romantic getaway. But it also has lots – lots – more to offer beyond the scenery. Grand Teton National Park, home to the iconic Teton mountain range, is just north of Jackson Hole. Here, you’ll find endless opportunities for hiking, rafting, and fishing.

In fact, the Snake River, which runs through the park, boasts some of the world’s best cutthroat trout fishing. If you’re visiting in the winter or spring, you’ll also be able to enjoy legendary skiing and snowboarding.

Want to indulge in more relaxing and less doing on your romantic getaway? Downtown Jackson Hole is lined with tons of adorable shops, galleries, restaurants, cafes, and bars. And if you can add a day or two to your itinerary, take an easy day trip to Yellowstone National Park.

Where to stay: Although reservations are difficult to get, there is no more romantic hotel in Jackson Hole than Jenny Lake Lodge. Located within the national park, some of the most coveted views and hiking trails are just outside the door. There are no TVs, encouraging couples to connect over horseback riding or bike rides, and there’s almost always a fire roaring and live music in the lobby.

8. Big Sur, California

Big-Sur-California

Home to some of the most photographed, iconic coastline in all of California, Big Sur is absolutely dreamy. Located smack-dab in the middle of the state and just south of Monterey and Carmel-by-the-Sea (two equally romantic destinations), it’s easy to visit Big Sur regardless of where you’re traveling from. And bonus, it’s set along the most picturesque stretch of Highway 1, aka the Pacific Coast Highway, making Big Sur enjoyable even as a quick trip.

During your romantic getaway to Big Sur, you’ll want to spend plenty of time on the coast. Look for hidden tide pools and waterfalls, comb the beaches for sand dollars, and watch the surfers or hop on a board yourself. Be sure your phone or camera batteries are fully charged because you’re going to take a lot of pictures.

Where to stay: Check into Glen Oaks Big Sur for a romantic and truly memorable stay. Choose from four different types of accommodations, all set in a stunning redwood tree grove. Many rooms have private fire pits and outdoor soaking tubs, and guests all enjoy complimentary glasses of wine.

9. Kennebunkport, Maine

Kennebunkport-Maine

Maine as a whole is the epitome of a romantic getaway. Between the rocky, rugged coastline, picturesque beaches, historic lighthouses, quaint towns with boutiques and galleries, and a dizzying number of excellent restaurants (ahem, Maine lobster), you really can’t go wrong.

Kennebunkport, in particular, embodies all of Maine’s best romantic qualities in one small, postcard-perfect town. Nothing feels industrialized – because, well, it isn’t – plus there are plenty of opportunities to bond as a couple over outdoor recreation, and life moves at an enviable slow pace here.

Oh, and you’ll also find some of the best food in the state in Kennebunkport. Don’t miss getting a lobster roll from The Clam Shack and a slice of famous blueberry pie from Allison’s.

Where to stay: The White Barn Inn & Spa is classically Maine, both luxurious and laid-back (“coastal luxury,” they call it). The 150-plus-year-old inn has a phenomenal restaurant onsite, unbeatable coastal views, and elevated experiences. Try cooking alongside the chef, shadowing a Maine lobsterman, or cycling up the coast.

10. Maui, Hawaii

Maui-Hawaii

Known affectionately as the “Honeymoon Island,” Maui is perhaps one of the most romantic getaways anywhere in the world. To begin with, there are incredible beaches. Maui has more than 30 miles of pristine beaches, and each one is a little different.

There are white sand beaches, black sand beaches, red sand beaches, beaches for adults only, family-friendly beaches, and even clothing-optional beaches. To put it mildly, you can’t do much better than Maui if it’s beaches you seek.

If you’re looking for a bit of adventure, Maui has you covered there, too. Go snorkeling, try surfing or paddleboarding, book a fishing charter, or go whale-watching if you’re there in the winter months. Rent a Jeep and drive the storied Road to Hana, or get up before the sun and catch the sunrise at Haleakala, an enormous shield volcano. Maui also has plenty of hiking trails, including many that take you to waterfalls.

Where to stay: To experience authentic Maui (and enjoy a much more intimate, romantic getaway), head away from the crowded touristy areas and book yourselves into the Hana-Maui Resort. Perched on the eastern end of the island along the Road to Hana, this resort is secluded and exudes “old Hawaii” charm, but with plenty of luxurious amenities.

The 10 Best Tank Tops for Men in 2022 https://nextluxury.com/mens-style-and-fashion/mens-tank-tops/ Wed, 21 Jul 2021 15:00:17 +0000 https://nextluxury.com/?p=245551 …]]> Tank tops for men are staples of gym ensembles and casual warm-weather wardrobes. There’s physically not much to them, they’re super comfortable, and they’re effortless – literally throw one on with your favorite pair of summer shorts and go.

It’s clear this humble classic can do double-duty and be much more than just a gym staple.

However (there’s always a “but,” right?!), the type of tank top you choose is critical. You want it to fit just right – not too baggy or boxy, but not too fitted, either – which means you should pay careful attention to the tank top’s material and cut.

Fortunately, we’ve done the research and scoured the available options for the best tank tops for men. Whether you’re looking for one to work out in, for layering underneath something else, or to rock on its own this summer, we’ve got you covered.

Tank tops already scream “warm-weather wardrobe.” Add nautical stripes, though, and the combination becomes even more summer-perfect. That perfectly describes this slub cotton tank from J. Crew, and we almost guarantee it’ll be on repeat as long as the sun’s out.

Combining a worn, lived-in look, color blocking with navy blue and stripes, and a perfectly relaxed fit, this men’s tank top looks great with any pair of shorts or even jeans. It features a contrasting chest pocket, is made from 100% sustainable cotton, and also comes in extended sizes including XS, which is exceedingly hard to find.

The 12 Best Beaches To Visit in the U.S. https://nextluxury.com/food-travel/best-beaches-in-the-us/ Sat, 17 Jul 2021 19:00:29 +0000 https://nextluxury.com/?p=244764 …]]> There’s really no such thing as a bad beach, right? Sand, sun, and glistening, refreshing water to play or cool off in – what’s not to love? Thinking about what makes a beach exceptional, though, is a whole different story. It’s a very subjective thing, as the best beach might mean calm water and powdery white sand to some, while to others it may mean excellent surf and plenty of opportunities for adventure.

Whatever your personal definition of the best beach is, America has lots (and lots) of them to choose from. With two very different coasts and three major bodies of water, the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans and the Gulf of Mexico, there’s a beach for everyone here.

Do you prefer iconic, broad, sandy, palm tree-dotted beaches, hidden ones requiring a hike to access, or maybe even beaches where wild horses live? Whatever your beach style, you’ll find the perfect one for you on this list of the best beaches in the U.S.

1. Secret Beach, Kauai, Hawaii

Secret-Beach-Kauai-Hawaii

For most people, Hawaii immediately comes to mind when they think of the best beaches in the U.S. Kauai’s Secret Beach, which is officially named Kauapea Beach and often referred to as simply “Secrets,” is the epitome of a pristine Hawaiian beach. It’s exceptionally large in terms of both length and width and features golden sand, shimmering turquoise water, and lush green rainforests.

To get to Secret Beach, you’ll need to find the unmarked, steep trail between Kilauea Point and Kalihiwai Bay. You can actually see the beach from the Kilauea lighthouse, so if you get stuck searching, try visiting there first. Secrets is large enough that it’s always easy to find a secluded spot for yourself to layout and relax.

Note that the far eastern end of the beach has a reputation for being a go-to spot for nude sunbathers. There’s also a waterfall toward the east end of the beach and at the west end, there are a few lagoons that form natural calm swimming holes. The strong ocean current here makes it difficult to swim at Secret Beach most of the time, so stick to these lagoons for swimming and enjoy simply relaxing on one of the best beaches in the U.S.

2. Miramar Beach, Santa Barbara, California

Miramar-Beach-Santa-Barbara-California

Technically five miles from Santa Barbara proper in Montecito, Miramar Beach is somewhat of a hidden gem. This beach is very quiet and calm, with gentle, clear waters and sugar-fine soft sand, making it ideal for everything from surfing and swimming to sunbathing and walking the shoreline.

Miramar Beach’s calm waters are attributed to the fact that it’s situated in a south-facing cove. It’s pretty well-sheltered, which also allows for leisurely exploring the crystal-clear water. At low tide, several tide pools are also revealed. Thanks to its location just outside Santa Barbara, Miramar Beach is rarely crowded, yet it’s less than an hour from Los Angeles. Talk about the best of both worlds!

3. Crescent Beach, Cape Elizabeth, Maine

Crescent-Beach-Cape-Elizabeth-Maine

Fun fact: Maine has more coastline than the entire state of California. It’s true! So it comes as no surprise that some of the best beaches in the U.S. are in Maine. Located about eight miles from Portland in southwestern Maine, Crescent Beach is a classic, postcard-perfect New England beach.

The beach itself, as you may have guessed, is a one-mile crescent-shaped swath of soft sand. It’s surrounded by saltwater coves, sand dunes, woods, and granite rock ledges. Swimming and sunbathing are popular activities at Crescent Beach, of course, but there are also plenty of opportunities for fishing and paddling, plus several hiking trails.

4. Orange Beach, Gulf Shores, Alabama

Orange-Beach-Gulf-Shores-Alabama

Orange Beach is one of the most popular beaches in Gulf Shores, and for good reason. The superfine, sugar-white sand is so soft that it’s said to squeak under your feet and the calm waters are an almost unbelievable turquoise blue.

Adjacent to Perdido Key in the Florida panhandle (which is another spectacular beach), Orange Beach spans eight miles. It’s also fairly wide, so even on the most crowded days, it’s not difficult to find a patch of sand to make your own and stretch out comfortably. There’s a waterfront park, plenty of opportunities to fish either from the pier or aboard a boat with a guided outfitter, and even a shipwreck, The Lulu, to explore on a scuba diving expedition.

5. Moonstone Beach, Cambria, California

Moonstone-Beach-Cambria-California

Part of Hearts San Simeon State Park and situated just off the world-famous Highway 1 (aka the Pacific Coast Highway) in central California, Moonstone Beach is one of the best beaches in the U.S. The coastline here is punctuated by rocky cliffs and several coves with plenty of room to spread out and enjoy the beach. Spend some time combing the beach for several varieties of beautiful sea glass and impossibly smooth stones, including jade, jasper, agate, and of course, chalcedony – also known as moonstone.

Up above the beach, a boardwalk spans exactly one mile between the Santa Rosa Creek and Leffingwell Landing day-use areas, both with plenty of parking. A lookout near the boardwalk is perfect for spotting gray whales, dolphins, sea lions, and otters.

6. Siesta Beach, Siesta Key, Florida

Siesta-Beach-Siesta-Key-Florida

Since 2015, TripAdvisor has named Siesta Beach America’s #1 beach a whopping three times on its annual Traveler’s Choice Awards. The soft, fluffy white sand is cloud-like, with hardly a shell or other debris in sight. And thanks to its composition of nearly all quartz-crystal, the sand doesn’t get hot on even the sunniest days – an impressive feat on the Gulf of Mexico in Florida summers.

The largest of Siesta Key’s beaches, Siesta Beach has shaded playgrounds, volleyball courts, picnic areas, and plenty of free parking. Dolphins are frequently seen playing in the turquoise waters just off the shore, and the sea here is calm, shallow, and clear, making it one of the best U.S. beaches for families.

7. Jack’s Bay Beach, St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands

Jacks-Bay-Beach-St.-Croix-U.S.-Virgin-Islands

Often overlooked, the U.S. Virgin Islands are a group of three main islands nestled into the Caribbean. Each of the islands – St. Thomas, St. John, and St. Croix – is stunning and, interestingly, very different from one another.

One of the best beaches in the U.S., Jack’s Bay Beach, happens to be on St. Croix and it’s well off the beaten path, which means you’ll likely have it all to yourself. Located near the far eastern end of the island, Jack’s Bay Beach is directly below Point Udall.

Fun fact: Point Udall is the easternmost point in the United States and sees America’s very first sunrise every morning. You’ll need to hike downhill from Point Udall to get to Jack’s Bay Beach and while it’s not a long hike, it is steep. The reward is well worth it, though, as there’s rarely more than just a few people at the beach.

8. Cape Hatteras National Seashore, Outer Banks, North Carolina

Cape-Hatteras-National-Seashore-Outer-Banks-North-Carolina

North Carolina has dozens of fantastic beaches to choose from, but one of the best is Cape Hatteras National Seashore. Technically a narrow, 72 mile long strip of several barrier islands between Nags Head and Ocracoke Island, Cape Hatteras National Seashore has a little something for everyone.

Enjoy broad sandy beaches dotted with seashells and framed by towering sand dunes, lots of water and beach activities, and a couple of lighthouses. In fact, the tallest lighthouse in the United States is here, 196 foot tall Cape Hatteras Lighthouse.

Standing just 40 feet shorter, the Bodie Island Lighthouse is also nearby. Both date back to the 1870s and visitors can (and should!) climb both. Allow a full day for visiting the beach and lighthouse, and keep your eyes open for sea turtles sunbathing on the beach.

9. Pfeiffer Beach, Big Sur, California

Pfeiffer-Beach-Big-Sur-California

No list of the best beaches in the U.S. is complete without a mention of Big Sur. Arguably one of the most iconic stretches of coastline anywhere in the world, the Big Sur area is defined by dramatic rugged sea cliffs, crashing waves, and pristine beaches. Because of the rugged cliffs, Big Sur beaches aren’t necessarily the most accessible and visiting many of them requires a bit of effort.

That’s actually not the case with Pfeiffer Beach – it doesn’t require a hike or even an admission fee, but it is somewhat hard to find, thanks to the unmarked road connecting it to Highway 1. Once you do manage to find it, you’ll be treated to large unique rock formations (including Keyhole Arch, a natural rock arch) just offshore, tide pools at the north end of the beach during low tide, unbelievable sunsets, and sand that’s unmistakably purple, thanks to manganese garnet in the cliffs above.

10. Assateague Beach, Assateague Island, Maryland & Virginia

Assateague-Beach-Assateague-Island-Maryland-Virginia

In the heart of the east coast, Assateague Island is truly unlike any other. The barrier island sits in both Maryland and Virginia and features a rugged landscape dotted with wind-swept sand dunes, grasslands, and warm, shallow bays. Oh, and it’s also home to hundreds of wild, free-roaming horses. Legend holds that they’re descendants of a handful of domesticated horses that survived a shipwreck sometime in the 17th century.

The horses are, of course, one of the main reasons that Assateague Beach is one of the best beaches in the U.S. However, it’s far from the only reason. Each side of the island is unique, with 12 miles of quiet sandy beaches on the Maryland side and the interior bayside being more recreation-oriented.

Here, there are numerous opportunities for kayaking, clamming, and crabbing, plus the waters are warmer and calmer – perfect for swimming. If you want to go for a horseback ride, head to the Virginia district.

11. Driftwood Beach, Jekyll Island, Georgia

Driftwood-Beach-Jekyll-Island-Georgia

Situated on one of Georgia’s four Golden Isles, Driftwood Beach is widely considered one of the best and romantic beaches in the country. Due to years and years of erosion on the northern end of the island, hundreds of weathered, warped, and bleached trees dot the beach.

It may sound a little odd if you’ve never seen it in person, but it’s strikingly beautiful and truly memorable. In fact, Driftwood Beach is one of Georgia’s most photographed landmarks!

Aside from being picturesque, Driftwood Beach has tons to do. Georgia’s coastline is notorious for its excellent fishing, there’s a great network of bicycle trails, and you can even camp on the beach here. Another must-do activity at Driftwood Beach is visiting the Georgia Sea Turtle Center, an interactive experience for every member of the family!

12. Wai’anapanapa State Park, Hana, Hawaii

Waianapanapa-State-Park-Hana-Hawaii

Wai’anapanapa State Park, along the famous Road to Hana, is the epitome of a Hawaiian beach. Its black sand was created by basalt lava flow several centuries ago, and it’s framed by lush green rainforest and indigo blue ocean.

The dramatic scenery is postcard-perfect and absolutely pristine. Being a stop along the Road to Hana, Wai’anapanapa State Park takes a bit of effort to reach. Those willing to put in the work are rewarded with a big payoff, as the beach is rarely crowded – something increasingly hard to find anywhere in Hawaii.

In addition to the beach itself, Wai’anapanapa State Park features large black boulders, sea caves, a natural sea arch, a blowhole, several small swimming holes, and a blowhole. Visitors can cliff dive, explore the sea caves, or hike to explore the boulders and inlets.

10 Dreamy American Treehouse Rentals You Need to Experience https://nextluxury.com/food-travel/luxury-treehouse-rentals/ Thu, 08 Jul 2021 21:00:27 +0000 https://nextluxury.com/?p=243910 …]]> As more and more people feel ready to travel once again, traditional cookie-cutter hotels no longer suffice. People across the globe are looking for memorable, unique getaways and when you think of unique accommodations, it’s hard to beat treehouses.

They’re whimsical, romantic, fun, memorable, and absolutely dreamy. Whether you’re hoping to get off the grid and looking for seclusion or prefer a more luxurious experience with access to plenty of amenities, you truly can’t do better than a treehouse – a very literal room with a view.

You don’t come across a treehouse for rent every day, though, so we’ve done the legwork and found some of the best out there. While some of them are as charmingly rustic as you might expect, others are shockingly luxurious, with full kitchens, running water, and unexpected elements you’ll never forget.

1. Montana Treehouse Retreat, Montana

Meadowlark Treehouse

It doesn’t get much better than a luxurious double-decker treehouse tucked into the woods. Located in one of the most pristine areas in America – just outside Glacier National Park in northwest Montana, the Meadowlark Treehouse is nothing short of spectacular.

This dreamy treehouse was designed and built in conjunction with DIY Network’s The Treehouse Guys and features two spacious decks, a full kitchen, and multiple bathrooms. It also has heat and air conditioning to stay comfortable in every season.

Perhaps most impressive of all, though, is that two living trees grow right through the interior of the treehouse! The location is unbeatable, too, just 30 minutes from both Glacier National Park’s west entrance and Whitefish Mountain Ski Resort and five minutes from Columbia Falls.

2. The Treehouse at East Zion Resort, Utah

Utah treehouse

This southern Utah treehouse embodies the term “go big or go home.” Very literally built around a massive 100-year-old cottonwood tree, treehouses don’t get much more authentic than this. Feel free to take the stairs, but if you’re a bit more adventurous, opt to enter through the hobbit door instead. From there, use the climbing wall on the inside of the hollowed-out tree trunk.

Inside the treehouse, you’ll be greeted with a beautifully rustic yet modern aesthetic. There’s an insanely comfortable king bed in the loft with large picture windows throughout, plus a kitchenette and full bathroom.

No detail has been overlooked and you’ll have everything you need for a memorable stay, from linens and utensils to Wi-Fi and streaming services. The best part? This Utah treehouse is less than 30 minutes from Zion National Park and under an hour from Bryce Canyon National Park.

3. ‘Eagle’s Nest’ Treehouse, Washington

‘Eagle’s Nest’ Treehouse

Situated in Port Angeles, Washington, and overlooking the ocean, this dreamy treehouse puts you in the perfect location to enjoy the best of the PNW. Olympic National Park is less than 20 minutes away, although this treehouse is so well-equipped that you may not want to leave!

The fire-heated hot tub and two indoor hammocks (really!) are reason enough to book a stay at Eagles’ Nest. There’s also a kitchenette and full bathroom with running water, plus a BBQ grill outside, so you can make yourself at home and enjoy modern creature comforts.

On the ground, 20 feet below, there’s a large seating area centered around a fire pit with beautiful views of the ocean. Pack a pair of binoculars, because this is a wonderful place to sit and watch for marine life!

4. Luxurious Canopy Treehouse, Maine

luxurious-canopey-treehouse

Maine is incredible in every season, and this dreamy treehouse lets you experience that firsthand. Dubbed a “tiny home in the trees” by the owner, the treehouse is just 350 square feet but packs a tremendous punch.

This treehouse was designed to bring the outside in, with spectacular views greeting you from multiple areas inside. There’s a full kitchen, two queen beds, a projector and movie screen for cozy nights in, and a private hot tub on the deck.

Every little detail in the treehouse is well thought out, from the live-edge wood floating shelves to the acorn-shaped drawer pulls. And if you still need one more reason to book this treehouse, it went fully carbon-neutral in 2020, thanks to the installation of over 150 solar panels.

5. Little Red Treehouse, Colorado

Little Red Treehouse

Living up to its name, the Little Red Treehouse cheerfully stands out against its green forested surroundings. It’s perched high above the ground just outside Lyons, a quaint town in between Boulder and Rocky Mountain National Park. Venture into the park and use the loaner bicycles to explore Lyons, experiencing everything the area has to offer.

The treehouse has 360-degree views and loads of amenities, including a kitchenette, separate shower and powder room, heat and air conditioning, and a porch swing. You’ll likely want to spend every possible moment outside, but when you’re finally ready to turn in for the evening, there are two separate sleeping areas: the “fairy loft,” accessible by ladder, and a comfortable Murphy bed on the ground floor.

6. Willow Treehouse, New York

Willow Treehouse

If you want the best of both worlds – an authentic, rustic treehouse experience and proximity to city amenities – the Willow Treehouse is perfect for you. It’s located just 15 minutes from historic Woodstock, with a charming downtown and plenty to keep you busy, and it also overlooks a private swimming pond.

Floor-to-ceiling windows and being perched in the middle of 34 acres means you’ll feel completely secluded, allowing you to truly unplug. The loft-style, mid-century modern interior is both cozy and chic, with a sleek kitchen, wood-burning fireplace, and several comfortable nooks for reading or writing. Outside, enjoy a hot tub under the stars and beautiful walking paths through the woods on the property.

7. Beaver Pond ‘ReTREEt’ Treehouse, Vermont

ReTREEt treehouse

Central Vermont is a destination in and of itself, but the ReTREEt treehouse certainly offers up another reason to visit. This treehouse is in the Green Mountain National Forest, perfectly situated between the Sugarbush and Killington ski resorts. Even if winter sports aren’t your thing, the resorts offer year-round adventures including hiking, mountain biking, disc golf, scenic lift rides, and more.

ReTREEt gives you a rustic, cozy experience, with no electricity inside and plenty of lovely outdoor seating areas. There’s propane heating to stay warm inside and a seasonal outdoor shower (not open in the winter). Enjoy the outdoor fire pit, cooking on the grill, and booking a massage with the in-house massage therapist!

The treehouse also overlooks a creek and beaver pond, accessed by a walking path. The treehouse deck allows you to sit and watch the beavers, being mesmerized over how hard they work on their homes.

8. Off-grid Tropical Treehouse, Hawaii

Off-grid Tropical Treehouse

Does it get any dreamier than a treehouse in Hawaii?! We don’t think so either. Tucked into a densely forested jungle on the Big Island just 10 miles from Volcano National Park, this treehouse is quite literally the stuff dreams are made of.

Before you even enter the treehouse, the swinging outdoor bed will invite you to relax. It’s protected from the elements, suspended below the treehouse living quarters 15 feet above, and draped in dreamy canopies. Don’t worry, there’s a comfortable bed inside if you’re not too keen on sleeping outside in the jungle.

Sustainability is a core theme throughout the treehouse, with solar power, bamboo and stone finishes, and the shower using naturally-caught rainwater. To make your stay even more comfortable, enjoy plush robes, a selection of books, local snacks and coffee, and an authentic vintage gramophone. There’s also a wraparound lanai with 360-degree views and plenty of seating.

9. ‘Eagle’s Nest’ Treehouse with Zipline, Oregon

‘Eagle’s Nest’ Treehouse with Zipline

Suspended 18 feet off the ground and supported by four individual trees, Eagle’s Nest is about as authentic as treehouses come. Everything about this treehouse is whimsical – the suspension bridge, the huge outdoor soaking tub, the wooded walking paths, and of course, the zipline down to the ground – and yet, it’s just 10 minutes outside of downtown Portland.

Inside, numerous windows provide fantastic views from every angle. There’s a full kitchen with retro appliances, a full bathroom, fireplace, a dedicated workspace, air conditioning, and an indoor hammock upstairs.

Watch TV or stargaze right from bed (or the hammock, your choice!), and in the mornings, enjoy coffee from the Adirondack chairs on the deck and then zipline down to the ground to begin your adventures.

10. Secluded Treehouse with Swinging Bridges, Atlanta

Secluded Treehouse

Atlanta is one of the biggest, busiest cities in the United States, but you’d never know that based on this dreamy treehouse. Located right in town, this secluded treehouse is actually made up of three individual structures, each connected by swinging rope bridges adorned with twinkling string lights. Walk from the living room to the bedroom to the spacious deck, all the while indulging every childhood treehouse fantasy you’ve ever had.

The treehouse is somehow even more impressive inside, professionally decorated, and perfectly curated. The bed sits on an elevated indoor/outdoor platform in front of French doors, allowing you to very literally sleep under the stars if you so choose.

A turquoise writing desk, sliding glass panel doors, and more twinkling lights make this space so dreamy, you’ll have a very difficult time ever leaving. Outside, enjoy a hammock and dartboard. It’s no wonder at all this dreamy treehouse has been named “the #1 most wish-listed property in the world” by Airbnb.

The 10 Best Men’s Tennis Shoes To Improve Your Game https://nextluxury.com/mens-style-and-fashion/best-tennis-shoes-for-men/ Thu, 01 Jul 2021 21:00:39 +0000 https://nextluxury.com/?p=243069 …]]> Whether you’re a casual, twice-a-year kind of tennis player or you’re on the courts several times a week, a high-quality pair of tennis shoes can drastically improve your game. Not only will you be more comfortable in a pair of shoes designed specifically for tennis, but you’ll have more stability and support, which can go a long way in sharpening your confidence and therefore, skills.

Shoes of any type are, of course, deeply subjective. In addition to stylistic preferences, everyone has different foot shapes and fit requirements. While we can’t make the decision for you, we can help. To that end, we’ve compiled this list of 10 of the best men’s tennis shoe options out there to help you narrow it down, whether you want something for casual, everyday wear or truly need a pair to help you up your tennis game.

Best Buy

1. ASICS Gel-Resolution 8

ASICS Gel-Resolution 8

Check Price

Based on the number of tennis professionals who choose to wear the ASICS Gel-Resolution 8 (we’re looking at you, Gaël Monfils and Fabio Fognini), it seems to be one of the most popular tennis shoes of all time. ASICS’ Gel-Resolution line is a longtime success, and this newest version is better than ever. The shoe is outrageously supportive, combining DYNAWALL and DYNAWRAP technology to lock the foot in, particularly during rapid lateral movements.

Beyond that, the shoe is lightweight, well-cushioned, and very comfortable no matter what you’re wearing it for. Another area where the Gel-Resolution 8 shines is its fit – remarkably, this shoe fits well whether someone has an exceptionally wide or narrow foot and regardless of what type of arch they have. The company even brought Monfils in as a consultant to develop the shoe!

2. Cole Haan ZEROGROUND Winner

Cole Haan ZEROGROUND Winner

Check Price

You may think of Cole Haan as strictly a fashion label as opposed to a brand making solid athletic wear and shoes but hold that thought. Cole Haan is certainly an upscale label, but they actually have technical and athletic items dialed in really well, too. Take, for example, the men’s ZEROGROUND Winner Tennis Sneaker. A single glance tells you it’s a super stylish shoe, but diving into the technical specs quickly reveals that these are impressive on the court, as well.

A comfortable padded bootie with a snug fit and a unique GRANDFOAM midsole make these shoes springy and comfortable, while also keeping the heel in place. You’ll immediately feel the difference the intuitive, low-to-the-ground profile makes in helping you make (and keep) contact and move side-to-side. These tennis shoes are undoubtedly sleek, plus they come in a variety of fashionable colorways that complement athleisure outfits off-court.

3. Nike Court Lite 2

Nike Court Lite 2

Check Price

You really can’t go wrong with Nike for any type of athletic shoes, and these Court Lite 2’s are a fantastic pick. Focusing primarily on supreme traction and comfort, these men’s tennis shoes are great for any level of player, but especially for beginners or more casual recreational players.

The shoes offer excellent traction with no slippage whatsoever, so stability certainly isn’t a concern. Keeping true to the brand, the Court Lite 2 is also exceedingly durable. They’re made entirely of leather and have a reinforced toe, so these tennis shoes are up for the challenge no matter how many times you scuff your toe or drag your feet.

From a fashion point of view, the embroidered tennis court and Nike logo on the back of the shoes add visual interest and a fun pop. The shoes are also almost surprisingly affordable, so the value aspect is there, and there are a few colors to choose from.

4. adidas Adizero Ubersonic 4 Tokyo

adidas Adizero Ubersonic 4 Tokyo

Check Price

Drawing on the success of its predecessors the Adizero Ubersonic 2 and 3, this 4th version combines all the best features into one extremely lightweight tennis shoe. The minimalist-style shoe has a sock-style fit with no tongue, which some people love and others strongly dislike. In fairness, the sock fit does make the shoes a bit more difficult to get on, but this is largely a personal preference.

These tennis shoes feature a super bouncy, responsive Lightstrike midsole with a contoured, low-profile fit. Combined with the general lightweight design of the shoe, the insole offers lots of rebound for a fully immersive experience on the court. For a shoe this lightweight, the sole is surprisingly dense and durable – particularly in high-wear regions of the foot. That should give you some peace of mind if you’re not used to minimalist shoe styles.

5. New Balance 696 v4

New Balance 696 v4

Check Price

New Balance makes great sneakers for just about every purpose, and the 696 v4 is no exception. These men’s tennis shoes are especially great for people with wider feet (actually, New Balance as a whole is generally an excellent footwear option for people with wide or unusually-shaped feet). In fact, co-owner of Weed Sport, David Wilfert, Weed Sport, a CBD-based muscle rub, appropriately likens these shoes to wearing Crocs – they really are that comfortable.

For all this talk about their comfort, though, the New Balance 696 v4s also provide a great deal of support and mobility. The best way to describe them is plush, with ample cushioning and unique perforations that provide ventilation throughout the entire shoe. Thanks to the impressive traction and outstanding comfort, several reviewers also mention that these shoes are also a top choice for pickleball and racquetball.

6. K-Swiss Hypercourt Express 2

K-Swiss Hypercourt Express 2

Check Price

K-Swiss has been trendy off and on for years in athleisure and even high fashion circles, but it’s been a consistent staple in the tennis world for decades. The Hypercourt Express 2 checks boxes off for both style and functionality, with a sleek look and comfortable fit right out of the box.

This shoe’s uppers are made of breathable mesh and lightweight synthetic material, so they’re up for long, intensive games and hot days. One of the things people love about these tennis shoes is the DragGuard toe box. This innovative concept makes the toe area more durable, particularly against abrasions, which is one of the common complaints in tennis shoes.

Frequent quick stops and slides = substantially more wear on the front of the shoes. Finally, the Hypercourt Express 2 is frequently recommended for people who have especially wide or voluminous feet, as it’s designed to accommodate just about every foot type and shape.

7. Wilson Kaos 3.0

Wilson Kaos 3.0

Check Price

When you think of tennis brands, it’s near impossible to not immediately think of Wilson. The sleek, low-profile Kaos 3.0 has a ton to offer and is the perfect choice for those looking specifically for a lightweight men’s tennis shoe. They’re comfortable right out of the box, fit a wide variety of foot types and sizes, and don’t require any breaking in.

Shoes with an integrated bootie or “sock” aren’t for everyone, but Wilson seems to have hit the nail on the head with these. They pull right on without much fussing, and they’re comfortable immediately. Some shoes out there require lots of adjusting and tugging, but that isn’t the case with the Kaos 3.0. Similarly, these tennis shoes have a quick-lace system, which people generally love or hate.

This one is easy to learn and adjust, making it better than many out there. The Kaos 3.0 is extremely flexible, so those looking for an ultra-light, breathable shoe will be plenty happy.

8. Diadora Speed Blushield Fly 2

Diadora Speed Blushield Fly 2 Mens Tennis Shoe - White/Green/Black

Italian label Diadora may be closely associated with soccer, but don’t discount it for quality tennis shoes. Combining distinct looks, a lightweight profile, and plenty of cushioning, the Speed Blushield Fly 2 is a fantastic choice for casual and more serious players alike.

This tennis shoe features an integrated full bootie, traditional laces, and a mesh upper for breathability and comfort. The Speed Blushield Fly 2 is also reinforced in high-wear areas including the toe and heel, and the outsole even comes with a six month durability guarantee.

Still need a bit more convincing? One recent review says, “These are the best tennis shoes I have purchased in 10 years – and I buy a lot of shoes.”

9. New Balance Fresh Foam Lav 1

New Balance Men's Fresh Foam Lav V1 Hard Court Sneaker, Vintage Indigo/Reflection, 8.5

Check Price

Named Lav in honor of tennis star Milos Raonic’s childhood nickname, this shoe was designed specifically for serious players and is a go-to for numerous pros. Thanks to the wide range of colorways available, it’s a favorite of shoeheads and more casual athletes, too.

The New Balance Fresh Foam Lav 1 has an innovative inner bootie, knit upper, and signature Fresh Foam insole for supreme cushioning and comfort. Interestingly, these shoes aren’t the lightest on the market in terms of actual weight, but the airy, breathable materials feel exceptionally light on.

These men’s tennis shoes are comfortable right out of the box and don’t require any break-in. However, their unique construction does make them slightly narrower than other New Balance models, so keep that in mind when ordering.

10. ASICS Court FF 2

ASICS Court FF 2

We’re starting and ending our list of the best men’s tennis shoes with pairs from ASICS, and there’s good reason for that: the company has support, comfort, and wearability dialed in, making its shoes a fantastic choice for most players.

The Court FF 2 is the go-to choice for tennis pro Novak Djokovic, so it should come as no surprise the shoe is designed “for the most aggressive of movers.” Its sides are noticeably sturdy and rigid, designed specifically to support fast movements. At the same time, the unique Twistruss midsole is super flexible and meant to allow for slides. Combined, these innovative features make it so that you don’t ever have to question your shoes, allowing you to focus on improving your game.

The 10 Best Trucker Hats for Men in 2022 https://nextluxury.com/mens-style-and-fashion/best-trucker-hats/ Sat, 26 Jun 2021 19:00:21 +0000 https://nextluxury.com/?p=242107 …]]> Ah, the classic trucker hat. The epitome of an effortless cool-guy look, much like a chambray shirt. Trucker caps work well as the perfect casual accessory for everything from the beach to a sharp jeans-and-blazer look. It’s a look that truly everyone can pull off and it’s timeless, so you never have to worry about whether it’s the right season or on-trend. You can always count on Patagonia to put its own twist on a classic and somehow elevate a style, and that’s exactly the case with this men’s trucker hat. It’s fairly difficult to find low-profile trucker hats like this one; low-profile hats are often more of a “Dad hatstyle and trucker hats tend to have either mid or high-profiles. If you’re looking for a happy medium, here it is!

The hat comes in a choice of two great neutral color schemes and features a structured front panel and pre-curved bill. And bonus, staying true to its brand mission, Patagonia recently updated the brim to be made of 100% fully traceable recycled fishing nets. The hat is also sewn under Fair Trade-certified practices. We love a sustainable clothing company

3. John Deere Trucker Hat

The John Deere label and trucker hats go together like, well, tractors and farms. And what man wasn’t at one time a tractor-obsessed little boy? Featuring the iconic John Deere green and yellow color combo, this men’s trucker hat is about as classic as they come.

The foam and mesh cap features a pre-curved bill and seamless front panel. Keeping in line with classic John Deere quality, the logo is embroidered on, not just glued or sewn around the edges, and inside there’s a signature illustration of a deer with a large rack of antlers.

This is how you know this hat is authentic. The green color alone sets this trucker hat apart, but another unique feature is the yellow seams showing through the white mesh. This is absolutely intentional and gives a cohesive look, tying in the yellow on the front label.

4. NASA Logo Embroidered Patched Mesh Trucker Hat

Just about everyone thinks space is cool, right? And so by proxy, this hat is cool, too. It’s an ultra-simple design, solid-colored with a classic mesh back and adjustable snapback closure. The classic red and white NASA logo is unmistakable, and the entire patch is embroidered securely onto the front of the hat.

Reviewers mention specifically that the hat fits very well, accommodating everything from small to larger-sized heads. The mid-profile cap has a four inch deep crown with a seamed front panel and a stiff, already-curved bill for more structure than many other men’s trucker hats. You can’t beat the price, so if you’re stuck deciding between two colors, buy them both!

5. Carhartt Buffalo Sandstone Meshback Cap

Featuring a classic mesh adjustable snap-back and that coveted vintage or “worn” look, the Carhartt Buffalo Sandstone cap is ready to wear right out of the package. It doesn’t have a flat bill and there’s no awkward break-in period, either – the hat is well-structured and comes with the visor pre-curved. Choose from a handful of colors, all sporting the classic Carhartt logo patch on the front.

6. Lindo Trucker Hat

LINDO Trucker Hat - Great Outdoors Collection (Black)

Looking for a men’s trucker hat that’s stylish, but doesn’t necessarily have a logo or bold design? Here it is. The Lindo Trucker Hat has a simple, clean, outdoor-focused design featuring the outline of a mountain range and an evergreen tree. No logos, no words, nada. It’s available in more than 15 color choices, but they all have that same signature, pared-down style.

This hat gets outstanding reviews, with numerous comments on its comfort and fit. The mid-profile design comes with a perfectly curved bill and structured front panels, and the classic snapback makes it easy to adjust for most head shapes. When you want to send the message that you’re adventurous, love the Great Outdoors, and have a great sense of style, reach for this trucker hat.

7. RVCA Trucker Hat

Fun fact: RVCA is pronounced “Roo-kuh.” Owned by the powerhouse surf brand Billabong, RVCA makes awesome casual-cool clothing and accessories that are just as much at home on the beach as accessorizing an outfit for date night. Now that you know how to pronounce it and what the brand is about, let’s dive into what makes this Roo-kuh men’s trucker hat such a great choice.

The hat has a flat bill and a flat, seamless front. It basically epitomizes California cool. While it’s a classic snapback trucker hat, RVCA added a very small, subtle logo tag to the back band, which is a nice touch. If you’re on the fence about this hat, check out its reviews – they’re near perfect.

8. The North Face Logo Trucker Hat

If you’re a fan of The North Face, this is your hat. Who said TNF always had to mean epic adventures? This hat is up for full send type of weekends, but it’s just as at home relaxing closer to home, too.

The style features a big, bold TNF logo on a classic trucker cap. The front panel is traditional foam and seamless without any eyelets, so it has that coveted, iconic “puffy” look of throwback trucker hats. It sits somewhere between mid and high-profile, with a distinct silhouette.

There is no question that this is a trucker hat. The North Face offers this cap in three excellent colorways ranging from subtle (gray on black) to super bold (royal blue, red, and white) to suit every possible taste.

9. Coors Light Trucker Hat

In a similar fashion to the John Deere version earlier on this list, some brands just seem to be perfectly synonymous with trucker hats. Coors Light is definitely one of those brands. This hat comes in three colorways, each featuring a crisp white mesh back and the classic Coors Light mountain logo. Don’t count on these mountains turning blue when it’s cold enough, though.

This trucker hat is lower-profile, so it fits more like a traditional baseball cap. It’s also made of 100% cotton and features a pre-curved bill and structured front panel. The back features a subtle solid black tab just above the snapback, giving it the perfect stands-out-just-enough detail.

10. L.L.Bean Trucker Hat

L.L.Bean Trucker Hat

L.L. Bean is one of the most iconic and classic clothing brands in American fashion, and we absolutely love this hat for a bit of a throwback look. It features classic trucker cap styling, but with some elevated twists – exactly what L.L. Bean is best at doing.

The hat’s bill is made of cotton twill instead of foam, so it has a bit more structure. It still has that great seamless look, though, as well as a well-structured bill. Choose from two design options, both of which are awesome.

The navy blue sports an embroidered multi-color stripe, while the thyme colorway features a watercolor naturescape of mountains and a lake. Both have the classic L.L. Bean logo embroidered on and a small, very subtle logo tab at the back snap band.

The 10 Best Running Trails in America To Experience https://nextluxury.com/mens-lifestyle-advice/best-running-trails-in-america/ Wed, 16 Jun 2021 19:00:03 +0000 https://nextluxury.com/?p=241520 …]]> Have you ever heard the term “runner’s high?” It’s a state of euphoria following a run, created by a rush of endorphins in the brain. Experiencing a runner’s high is closely associated with running outdoors, especially during the day.

This makes perfect sense, as we already know sunlight and fresh air offer a host of health benefits, both mental and physical. Want to improve your focus, make quicker, more sound decisions, thwart cravings, and generally be in a better mood? Go for a run. Better yet, go for a run outside.

Even if you already enjoy running and do it frequently, the same old scenery can quickly get old, whether it’s a treadmill or your neighborhood. Fortunately, the United States has a ton of fantastic running trails, ranging from easy urban loops to challenging backcountry paths.

To give you some inspiration to very literally get out there and start pounding some pavement, we’ve put together a list of the 10 best running trails in America. Keep in mind, this list barely scratches the surface of all the incredible trails in the US – but it’s a great start.

Trail Running Basics

Trail-Running-Basics-In-America

Despite having a very technical-sounding title, trail running is simply the practice of running on a trail in nature. It does not have to include scrambling over rocks or being in the mountains, though it often does. Trail running can mean you’re in your own neighborhood, in the middle of a major city, or miles and miles away from civilization. If you’re outside, running on a trail, you’re trail running.

Like traditional or “regular” running, you don’t need to have much special equipment or advanced skills to trail run. There are a few pieces of gear that will enhance your trail running experience, however.

 • A high-quality, durable pair of trail running shoes
 • A hydration vest or lightweight hiking backpack to stay hydrated
 • A headlamp for those early-morning and late-night runs
 • A pair of running gloves to help regulate your body temperature

It wasn’t easy picking just 10 of America’s best running trails to include in this guide. We selected trails that are not just unbelievably scenic but are also unique in some way and provide a challenging run.

1. Appalachian Trail – East Coast

Appalachian-Trail-East-Coast

How could we not kick off a list of the best running trails in America with one of the most iconic trails in the entire world? Commonly referred to as the “AT,” the Appalachian Trail spans 14 states and 2,179 miles, beginning at Georgia’s Springer Mountain and ending at Mount Katahdin, the highest peak in the state of Maine.

Just about every step of the AT is spectacularly gorgeous, with a wide variety of scenery and wildlife all year-round. One of the best things about the Appalachian Trail, though, is how accessible it actually is. Because the trail is so long, you can hop on it wherever you’d like and do any distance you’re up for, and many of the most picturesque sections are near or in major cities including Roanoke, Virginia, and Knoxville, Tennessee.

2. McKenzie River Trail – Eugene, Oregon

McKenzie-River-Trail-Eugene-Oregon

The Pacific Northwest is a runner’s paradise, with gorgeous, ever-changing scenery and a culture rooted heavily in outdoor recreation. Even with so many incredible running trails to choose from, western Oregon’s McKenzie River Trail stands out as one of the best. The fact that it starts in the bed of an ancient lava flow tells you it’s epic.

The 27 mile trail follows the McKenzie River in the heart of the Cascades, through moody, impossibly green, and often misty old-growth forest – hallmarks of this part of Oregon. Along the way, you’ll pass everything from natural hot springs to historic log bridges. There are a few strenuous sections, but overall the trail is moderate. Note that the McKenzie River Trail is widely considered one of the top mountain biking trails in the United States, and it’s heavily used by cyclists. Take your time, pay attention to your surroundings, and share the trail.

3. Dipsea Trail – Mill Valley, California

Dipsea-Trail-Mill-Valley-California

The Bay Area arguably has some of the best urban hiking and trail running in the entire country. Just 14 miles north of San Francisco proper in Mill Valley, the Dipsea Trail is one of the best examples of that. The trail spans 7.5 miles between Mill Valley and Stinson Beach, a quaint white-sand beach situated in Golden Gate National Recreation Area.

Dipsea Trail is considered strenuous, but it’s so breathtakingly beautiful that you may just forget about how hard you’re huffing and puffing. You’ll run through old-growth redwood forest in the famed Muir Woods, cross over iconic 2,572-foot Mount Tamalpais (affectionately called Mount Tam by locals), and enjoy both sweeping coastal and mountain views before ending up in Stinson Beach.

4. Bell Rock Pathway – Sedona, Arizona

Bell-Rock-Pathway-Sedona-Arizona

If you’re up for some relatively easy, very non-technical trail running, there is perhaps no better destination than Sedona. With never-ending views of iconic red rock formations and a well-maintained wide gravel path, Bell Rock Pathway is suitable for runners of all experience levels. The 3.5 mile trail takes you to Bell Rock, one of the most famous Sedona landmarks. Several other trails also traverse this one, so it’s easy to make your run shorter or longer.

A couple of important things to note about Sedona: although it’s at a substantially higher elevation than Phoenix, Sedona still gets extremely hot. Try to run very early in the morning or in the evening (bonus: Sedona sunrises and sunsets are out of this world!) and bring a lot of water – more than you estimate you need. Also, parking can be tricky in Sedona. DON’T assume that street parking is safe. Instead, buy a Red Rock Pass from one of the many vendors in town and ask for a map.

5. Ice Age National Scenic Trail – Wisconsin

Ice-Age-National-Scenic-Trail-Wisconsin

As one of just 11 National Scenic Trails in the US, you can count on the Ice Age Trail being something extra-special. Pick any stretch of the 1,200 mile-long trail as it traverses Wisconsin for consistently fantastic views and a very literal look at ancient history. Glaciers formed the vast majority of this part of the country and the Ice Age Trail highlights that, from geology to wildlife.

Although there certainly isn’t a single “bad” stretch of the trail, one of the best sections for runners passes through Kettle Moraine State Forest near LaGrange. This is perhaps the best representation of the trail’s diversity, with seemingly every type of terrain imaginable – you’ll see traditional pine forest alongside prairies, marshes, and of course, kettles, unique depressions in the ground formed by “dead” ice once a glacier retreats.

6. Breakneck Ridge – Cold Spring, New York

Breakneck-Ridge-Cold-Spring-New-York

CHOONGKY / Shutterstock.com

New York has a lot going for it, but it doesn’t generally pop into people’s minds right away when they think of outdoor recreation and gorgeous scenery. However, Hudson Highlands State Park Preserve is just 90 minutes outside the city (and you can get to it via train, for those city dwellers who don’t own a car) and provides stunning views of the Hudson River and surrounding valley. This is especially true in the fall when the trees are changing color.

Head for Breakneck Ridge – pay no mind to that terrifying name – where you’ll find several trailheads for every interest, skill level, and length. One of our favorites is the moderate six mile Bull Hill Trail. This loop hike provides panoramic views at every turn overlooking the river, surrounding towns, and even West Point.

7. Colorado Trail – Colorado

Colorado-Trail-Colorado

While it’s not for the faint of heart, the Colorado Trail, or “CT,” is certainly a bucket list destination for most runners. Traversing through some of the most spectacular scenery in the Rockies (which is really saying something), the Colorado Trail runs 480 miles between Denver and Durango. The average elevation on the trail is 10,300 feet, which adds a whole new element of difficulty. “Rocky Mountain high” is a very, very real phenomenon.

Runners and hikers can, of course, tackle any stretch of the CT their feet so desire. But for the most ambitious who want to do the entire trail, that will mean running through eight mountain ranges in six different national forests and six individual designated wilderness areas. Whew.

8. Palo Duro Canyon State Park – Texas

Palo-Duro-Canyon-State-Park-Texas

Just outside of Amarillo in northern Texas, Palo Duro Canyon is the second-biggest canyon in the United States – behind, of course, the Grand Canyon in Arizona. Appropriately nicknamed the Grand Canyon of Texas, Palo Duro Canyon is 120 miles long and reaches an awe-inspiring 20 miles wide in some places. As you can imagine, the scenery for a run is just spectacular, and Runners World explained it best: “Running in Palo Duro Canyon State Park is like dashing across a Georgia O’Keeffe painting.”

The park has several excellent running trails, but a couple, in particular, stand out. The 5.6 mile out-and-back Lighthouse Trail is one of the most popular, with fantastic views and a relatively easy, flat path. Another great option, albeit significantly more challenging, is the 11 mile Givens, Spicer & Lowry Trail.

9. Tahoe Rim Trail – California and Nevada

Tahoe-Rim-Trail-California-and-Nevada

If mountains and lakes are your preferred type of scenery, you’d be hard-pressed to find a better running trail in America. Circling famously blue Lake Tahoe in the Sierra Nevada mountains, the Tahoe Rim Trail, or “Rim Trail,” offers full-on lake views and passes through wildflower-blanketed meadows, thick forest, and other smaller alpine lakes.

The entire trail is 165 miles long, but there are dozens and dozens of access points along the lake, so you can easily hop on and off wherever you like. Note that Lake Tahoe is a wildly popular destination, and outdoor recreation is a way of life here. There are several local running and hiking clubs, so you’ll likely be sharing the trail. Even on the most crowded days, though, the Rim Trail is worth every step.

10. Awa’apuhi Trail – Kauai, Hawaii

Awaapuhi-Trail-Kauai-Hawaii

Kauai’s dramatic and rugged Na Pali Coast is one of the most recognizable views in Hawaii. The 17 mile stretch of coastline on the North Shore is home to spectacular remote beaches, towering hidden waterfalls, sea caves, and lush green rainforest. It’s also largely inaccessible because of its ruggedness, so for the most part, you have to see it from a boat or in the air. However, the Awa’apuhi Trail in Koke’s State Park offers a bit of an exception.

The 6.5 mile out-and-back trail takes you along challenging ridgelines to view the spectacular Na Pali Coast from a birds’ eye view. You’ll start at about 4,100 feet in elevation and descend to 2,500, but keep in mind that means you’ll be going uphill on the way back. Be careful near the edges, as the frequent rain can cause the cliffs to erode irregularly and unpredictably. And along those same lines, note that this trail is substantially more challenging when it’s wet and muddy due to rain. Choose your trail running shoes carefully!

The 10 Best Duffle Bags for the Weekend Traveler https://nextluxury.com/mens-style-and-fashion/best-weekender-bags-for-men/ Wed, 09 Jun 2021 21:00:44 +0000 http://nextluxury.com/?p=113399 …]]> Fun fact: Duffle bags and duffel bags are indeed one and the same. The two spellings are used interchangeably, but they refer to the exact same thing. It’s primarily a regional difference; the heavy-duty woolen cloth was originally made in the town of Duffel, Belgium, so duffel tends to be used more commonly throughout Europe. On the other hand, duffle is more common in America.

Now that we’ve cleared that up, let’s get into why duffles are such a great option for weekend trips. Duffle bags are convenient for weekend travel size-wise, plus they’re generally pliable so it’s easy to stuff them and they fit well into even cramped spaces.

They’re also usually made of lightweight yet durable materials, making them suitable for everything from business trips to camping weekends. In fact, duffles are so weekend-appropriate that they’re often referred to as weekenders!

When it comes to actually shopping for a high-quality duffle bag, things quickly become tricky. There are tons of options, including packable duffles, rolling duffles, rugged waterproof duffle bags, and much more. To help you narrow it down, here are our favorite picks for every preference, budget, and type of travel.

When you need rugged, durable, high-quality gear, it’s difficult to do much better than Patagonia. The Black Hole duffel stands out from other bags on this list with its multiple carrying options – instead of a shoulder strap, Patagonia includes two removable padded straps so you can wear this bag as a backpack and keep your hands free.

Clever integrated storage solutions include a large mesh pocket directly under the zippered top. This area is ideal for smaller items like hats or glasses that you don’t necessarily want to toss into the “black hole” of the bag.

There’s also an internal stretch-panel zippered compartment with a key clip that can be accessed from both inside and outside the bag. Daisy chains on the exterior allow you to easily attach additional gear, and the entire bag is made of weather-resistant and recycled 900-denier ripstop polyester.

There are several thoughtful storage compartments on the exterior, including two magnetic latching pockets, a small zippered pocket, and a zippered shoe compartment to keep your clothes dirt-free. The bag is made of lightweight yet durable, water-resistant fabric and finished with Herschel’s signature striped inner lining. Another signature feature of the Novel Duffle is the handy exterior shoe compartment, and there’s another mesh storage sleeve pocket on the inside.

With a choice of several colors and designs (we’re especially partial to the monochrome Raven Crosshatch and two-toned Timberwolf/Black Denim), this will quickly become your go-to everyday bag. At this wallet-friendly price point, you may even want to buy two!

4. Paravel Main Line Canvas Holdall

Celebrities love Paravel bags, including Kourtney Kardashian and Oprah. Perhaps it’s the brand’s signature clean styling or high-quality, durable construction. Or maybe it’s the fact Paravel has an intense focus on sustainability.

The brand uses almost entirely recycled materials, purchases carbon offsets, and has a lofty goal of becoming “the world’s first sustainable travel-goods brand.” Travel + Leisure also awarded Paravel a 2021 Global Vision Award for Sustainable Travel Essentials.

In the case of the Main Line Canvas Holdall, Paravel created a classic carryall duffle bag in timeless, neutral colors. Water and spill-resistant beige cotton canvas is trimmed in tan leather, and the bag has two small internal zippered stash pockets.

5. Everlane The Twill Weekender

Everlane The Twill Weekender

We’re tremendous fans of Everlane for affordable minimalist basics. The company has a well-earned reputation for doing simple and practical exceptionally well, and it’s seriously committed to ethical fashion to boot. Business Insider called it best: “The brand excels at creating timeless styles with a touch of modern flair, and always keeps practicality top of mind when putting out new designs.”

The Twill Weekender combines all of those things into a fantastic, simple duffle bag. The durable cotton twill fabric is water and stain-resistant and will hold up well to repeated use. Its handles are genuine leather and it has metal feet on the bottom to help it stand slightly off the ground – a feature typically only seen in bags at the higher end of the price spectrum.

A simple exterior slip pocket on one end and an interior zippered pocket help you stay organized.

6. The North Face Base Camp Duffel

Similar to the Patagonia Black Hole, The North Face’s Base Camp Duffel is ultra-rugged and up to any outdoor adventures. The bag is made of a combination of heavy-duty 1,000-denier TPE and ballistic nylon, making it practically bulletproof against any water or inclement weather.

There are several features that make the Base Camp duffel perfect for travel specifically. Among our favorites are the compression straps on the outside. This bag is hefty, and you’ll appreciate being able to cinch down the volume when it’s fully loaded.

The duffel can also be worn as a backpack and there are daisy chains on the outside. There are also two internal mesh pockets, one on the end and one underneath the top, plus a large zippered external end pocket.

7. Rains Duffel Bag

Looking for a no-frills duffel that looks great but is rugged enough to hold up to frequent use and inclement weather? Meet the Rains Duffel Bag. The bag comes in a choice of two neutral colors and is made of a waterproof polyester-polyurethane fabric blend, which allows water to bead up and roll right off.

This large bag will hold everything you need for an extended weekend trip, and multiple carry options make it manageable. Many other duffles allow you to carry with the top handles, a shoulder strap, or wear it as a backpack, but this Rains bag gives you the option of all three. The wide top opening provides quick access to contents inside, and an exterior zippered pocket lets you securely store valuables close by.

8. Troubadour Weekender

Troubadour’s products have distinct refinement and minimalism. This weekender duffle bag is so sleek it can easily double as a work bag for commuting to the office or for business trips. The fabric is lightweight, waterproof nylon and the bag comes in several colors.

A padded detachable shoulder strap is included and there are several discreet storage pockets, including a small internal zippered pocket for valuables and a large padded one that can accommodate laptops up to 16”.

By far our favorite feature on the Troubadour Weekender duffle is the “trolley sleeve.” This absolutely genius detail allows the bag to quickly attach to luggage by sliding over the handle but also doubles as an additional pocket when zippered shut. It’s these little details that make this duffle well worth the price tag.

9. Away The Weekender

Away’s entire line of luggage is wildly popular with frequent travelers, and it’s easy to see why. While it isn’t quite as affordable as some other options out there, it’s a worthy investment for frequent travelers.

There’s also a very subtle exterior shoe compartment, a large padded laptop pocket, and a trolley sleeve for securing the duffle to other luggage. The bottom is also finished with genuine leather for added durability.

The 10 Best Chino Shorts To Rock This Summer https://nextluxury.com/mens-style-and-fashion/chino-shorts/ Thu, 03 Jun 2021 15:00:02 +0000 https://nextluxury.com/?p=239678 …]]> Like their longer-legged sibling’s chino pants, chino shorts serve an interesting purpose in men’s fashion. They lean more casual, but they’re just refined enough to pass for slightly dressy, or smart casual if you will.

That makes chino shorts the perfect base for summer outfits, where occasions tend to be casual but with a lively vibe. So as summer rolls in, you’ll want to have several pairs in rotation, because this versatile piece of clothing can be worn in just about any warm-weather setting. Here are the 10 best pains of men’s chino shorts at every price point.

1. Asket The Shorts

Asket The Shorts

In our opinion, Asket’s “The Shorts” are just about perfect as far as chino shorts go (and aptly named – gotta love the art of simplicity). The shorts are super clean-looking, with front slant pockets, rear slash pockets, and no logos anywhere. They’re made of 100% organic cotton twill that’s both soft and crisp, which helps them retain their shape all day. These chinos also hit just above the knee, giving them a modern fitted silhouette.

If you need another reason to pull the trigger and buy these Asket chinos, the Swedish company focuses relentlessly on sustainability. It publishes stats like a garment’s landed cost and traceability, and openly encourages consumers to buy less but really love the items they do buy. That’s a company value we can certainly get behind.

2. Todd Snyder 9” Japanese Cut Off Short

Todd Snyder 9” Japanese Cut Off Short

We frequently sing Todd Snyder’s praises here at Next Luxury. We’re huge fans of the designer’s innovative and surprising New-York-City-meets-London-meets-military pieces – mostly because they’re just as wearable as they are stylish.

These 9” Japanese Cut Off Shorts are a perfect example: they pay homage to the military with authentic melamine buttons and impeccable tailoring, but they also have a perfectly frayed hem. In what world do the military and frayed anything meet? Todd Snyder’s world, that’s where. The shorts are also woven on vintage looms to give the 100% cotton fabric a genuine surplus look and feel. Note that these chino shorts are based on Todd Snyder’s Japanese Selvedge Chino Pants, so if you like either one, you’re bound to like the other, as well.

3. H&M Slim Fit Chino Shorts

H&M Slim Fit Chino Shorts

Check Price

Thankfully, you can find fantastic men’s chino shorts even if you’re not shopping with a Tom Snyder budget. H&M always comes in clutch for affordable, high-quality fashion pieces, and the company’s slim fit chinos are one of our favorite examples.

Clocking in at less than $20, it’s fairly (and very pleasantly) surprising that these H&M chino shorts are made of 100% cotton. They’re light and, of course, breathable, and several reviewers mention that the fabric has a nice super-soft, almost slick feel. As is often the case with H&M, these shorts are classics with a fun twist: they have traditional styling, such as button-close rear pockets, but they also have a rolled cuff hem and come in prints.

Please note: “slim fit” appears to be a bit of a misnomer, as these chino shorts have an obviously relaxed fit.

Is it just us, or is Polo Ralph Lauren synonymous with chinos? The classic, all-American look fits perfectly with one of the most classic, all-American fashion houses of all time. And in keeping with that, these chino shorts for men are an extra-smart take on the closet staple.

The chino shorts scream summers on Cape Cod, with a slim, straight-leg fit that hits a couple of inches above the knee. Their cotton-blend twill fabric is just thick and stiff enough to ward off wrinkles and hold their shape, even on the most active days, but also has a bit of stretch for comfort. To wear chino shorts this fitted, take a cue from the designer itself and balance them with an open button-down layered over a fitted t-shirt, or even a Hawaiian shirt.

5. Bonobos Stretch Washed Chino Shorts

Bonobos make some of the best men’s modern wardrobe essentials – they fit really well, they’re well-constructed, and they’re no-frills, but in the best possible way. These chino shorts are no exception. They stand out from other options because they come in several colors, a relatively rare feature in this particular clothing item. We especially love the seafoam green Nopales and gray Castlerock variations.

The shorts have a 7” inseam to hit slightly above the knee, and a mid-rise, very classic silhouette, striking a perfect balance between not-too-slim and not-too-relaxed. The material also has just a touch of stretchy spandex for all-day wearability.

A final feature we really like in these shorts is the monochrome buttons on the rear pockets. This subtle, simple detail goes a long way in making the look more streamlined and modern.

Right off the bat, you’ll notice that these chino shorts quite literally have a lot going on: they come in different lengths (7” or 9”) and several colors. There are even more options than the Bonobos pair above! They also look slightly different than your standard chino shorts, with a fabric blend that “stretches like a performance short.” That means you’ll practically live in these, which is likely how they got their name.

The decidedly modern yet classic look of these chino shorts makes them appropriate for nearly any environment. If you work in an office that has a slightly relaxed dress code or allows shorts in the summer, you’ll really live in these shorts. We love the side welt pockets and rear slash pockets, plus the fact that they’re so lightweight. Pair them with a chambray or flannel shirt and you have a new everyday uniform.

L.L. Bean is another one of our go-to brands. The company has been around (and more importantly, relevant!) for well over a century, focusing on clothing, boots, and accessories designed for maritime and outdoor life. That means it’s exceedingly durable and functional, and the price point is totally reasonable as well.

In the case of these 100% cotton chino shorts, they’re about as classic as you can get. They lend themselves to a preppy look with their 8” inseam, natural fit, classic color options, and crisp, plain front. The wrinkle-free, stain-resistant, no-shrink technology makes these shorts no-fuss, so this is one of our favorite pairs for travel and especially active days. Bonus: they come in extended waist sizes up to 44”.

Back in 2016, GQ name Saturdays New York City the Best New Menswear Designers in America,” so it’s safe to assume these guys know how to make a great pair of chino shorts. The company gets all of its clothing inspiration from NYC (where else?), which means it’s designed to be extremely functional, versatile, and of course, stylish.

The workwear-inspired Ross chino shorts have a noticeably more relaxed fit than the other options on this list, but they’re not at all baggy. It’s a look inspired by the old-school chinos that were worn day in and day out, and the washed color options align well with that. To style these shorts, balance them with a more fitted shirt, like a short-sleeved button-up or a simple v-neck.

If you’re a fan of Lululemon and similar activewear brands, this is the perfect pair of chino shorts for you. They look like a totally classic pair of shorts, but as a “performance short,” they’re made of lightweight 94% cotton and 6% elastane with four-way stretch, designed to allow unrestricted movement. Like Lulus, these Everlane chino shorts are also quick-drying and sweat-wicking, so they’re up for anything from a casual brunch date to a full day on the golf course.

Choose from four colors and two different inseam lengths, 7” and 9”. We always appreciate a company that offers extended sizes, and Everlane doesn’t disappoint, with single-digit waist size options ranging from 28 to 38. And at a budget-friendly price point, it’s not at all difficult to understand why Everlane has become such a cult favorite in recent years.

Since performance and activewear shorts are increasingly popular, we wanted to include more than just one option in the chinos realm. Designer Rhone has aptly named these shorts the Commuter, because they’ll take you literally anywhere you want to go and they’re up for anything.

Made of 100% lightweight polyester with four-way stretch, these are perhaps the least chino-looking shorts on the list and certainly the most modern. Choose from several hip colors (we see you, Blue Grouper and Redwood Trail) and sizes ranging from 30 to 40”, all with a 7” inseam.

Our absolute favorite feature is the cleverly designed pockets. You’ll find two hidden secured pockets, perfect for your phone or cash – one in a front pocket and a zippered pocket inside one in the rear.
