The 3 Best Last-Minute Watch Gifts for Men https://nextluxury.com/mens-style-and-fashion/best-last-minute-watch-gifts-for-men/ Tue, 20 Dec 2022 15:00:23 +0000 https://nextluxury.com/?p=289847 …]]> No time to shop? We rounded up the 3 best last-minute watch gifts for men to save time. With the holiday season breathing down the back of my neck, I’m quickly finding myself scurrying around for last-minute presents for the folks in my life that are the hardest to nail down.

What does my dad really need? What about a friend or a coworker that really came through for you this year? Instead of running around at the last minute and searching for a spot in the mall parking lot (before heading in to be inevitably disappointed), I’m saving time and relying on gifts that have held steady, tried, and true for generations before mine.

Ironically on the topic of saving time, one of those classic gifts for the men or women in your life is the gift of a timeless timepiece. That’s right, how about a watch? Especially in the age of cell phones, where the time is at your fingertips all day long but often met with the myriad of distractions that come with opening up your phone screen, a watch is a grounding gift that reminds the loved ones in your life to live in the moment (and think of you every time they glance down at their wrists!).

Given that a wristwatch is a crowd-pleaser no matter who you’re gifting to, we’ve rounded up a few best-in-class options for you to consider for a loved one in your life. Read on for a handful of our favorites. It’s not a bad way to pass the time.

1. Nordgreen Pioneer

Nordgreen Pioneer Watch Gift Set

Nordgreen is a familiar name at Next Luxury. We’ve previously riffed some thoughts on their Fall collection from this year, which revolves around the concept of the tactile relationship you have with your everyday items and the experiences that come from that unique type of relationship.

With that kind of intention and thought put into their collections, you already know that you have that “conversation piece” angle checked off for your gifting needs. I always try to find a fun fact or two to go along with a gift. I find it makes the receiver feel extra cool to have a few one-liners they can pull out of their pocket to tell to future admirers of their timepiece.

As a general look into Nordgreen, the company came together back in 2017 in an effort to bring traditional Scandinavian watchmaking into the eyes and onto the wrists of today’s consumer, matched in tradition with modern and understated design features that favor functionality over flashiness. All in all, a great place to start sifting through their collections for your average watch wearer, whether it’s you or a loved one this season.

One of Nordgreen’s tried and true silhouettes that comes with high recommendation is their classic Pioneer model – a crowd-pleasing timepiece that Nordgreen describes as a “minimalist take on a chronograph.” Without saying much else, this is a big green flag for the person on your list with an affinity for things classic or vintage. Additionally, Nordgreen’s Pioneer is a part of the previously mentioned concept of mixing texture and memory together for a tactile experience.

Nordgreen Watches on Silk Fabric

When you dive into the details, you’ll quickly find the inspiration for the Pioneer comes from technical devices we’ve seen throughout the years. Despite the layered functionality of the piece, no corners are cut in ensuring that the composition and design of the watch face remains simple and uncluttered. My personal favorite element of the Pioneer is the extra attention to detail in the domed sapphire glass on the dial. Both an element of security for the dial as well as an element of depth, it protects the Japanese quartz movement inside that keeps the piece moving.

Available in both Charcoal Black and a sophisticated Ash Grey, the package comes with multiple options for the band. Brown leather is my preference, but you can make the call between brown leather, black leather, and gunmetal links depending on your mood or what the situation calls for.

Nordgreen is offering an additional 15% off their already discounted bundles with code NEXTLUXURY.

2. Shinola Runwell

Shinola Runwell 41mm Watch

If you’ve spent any time in the watch world, Shinola is definitely a name that has crossed your radar (if not held a place in your collection). As a brand, Shinola has long rested its laurels on American manufacturing and its footprint in Americana heritage style. Shinola comes with a solid reputation and a long historical track record, which comes along with a price tag. These factors make Shinola a top contender for a gift that commemorates a special occasion, milestone, or perhaps for someone extra special.

While it’s really difficult to land on a favorite when you consider their expansive collection over their long history, I’ve done my best to pick one that would suit my tastes this holiday season, especially for use in more formal situations that one might come in touch with in high frequency during this most wonderful time of the year.

I have long had my eyes on the variety of options in the Runwell series, coming in at just under $600 for any of the colors and makes, this is one of Shinola’s more accessible options that works equally well in a casual or formal setting. For me, I’m about the contrast of the leather strap against the white or green faces. What’s best for you? Black? Bold in blue? The choice is yours.

3. Oris Artelier Complication

Oris ARTELIER COMPLICATION

Check Price

Man, it’s hard to talk about watches without bringing up Oris, a legendary fixture in the world of timekeeping for well over 100 years. I recently attended the same event as Oris and they brought their 30-foot Airstream trailer decked out inside with just about every watch face you could dare to dream up. Exclusively making mechanical watches, the precision required to manufacture such pieces significantly affects the price of your timepiece.

For the sake of inclusion, however, I have to note my love for the Artelier Complication, one version of their Artelier collection. Truly a heritage heirloom piece, the design screams agelessness while also exuding heritage in a way that only our grandparents knew how. Anyone got a spare $2,500 kicking around?

Wrapping Up the 3 Best Last-Minute Watch Gift Roundup

In conclusion, there’s a wide array of price ranges into which you can tap to find a memorable and meaningful gift this holiday season that will keep you in front of mind every time your loved one checks their wrist. What’s it going to be for you?

4 Best Watch Brands To Wear if You Don’t Want To Go Digital in 2023 https://nextluxury.com/mens-style-and-fashion/best-watch-brands-to-wear-if-you-dont-want-to-go-digital/ Wed, 09 Nov 2022 16:00:10 +0000 https://nextluxury.com/?p=286292 …]]> With cell phones so easily accessible in most of our back pockets, it can be hard to find time to strap a watch to your wrist these days. With our time being mostly digital, Adding a watch to your daily kit is more often for style or aesthetic than for practical use.

Did I strike a chord with you there? Good. I didn’t really mean that. I am fighting hard in my daily life to resist the complete technological takeover that runs our day-to-day.

Analog is alive and healthy, but there is merit to adding a watch for the look of it, too. As fall is in full swing and colder months are not too far in the future, It’s a great time to start thinking about a daily driver that compliments the layers we’ve been looking forward to putting on after a hot summer. That’s why we put together a short guide featuring our picks for the 4 best watch brands to wear if you don’t want to go digital in 2023.

What Makes a Good Watch

What makes a great watch, though? As a long-time fanboy in the heritage goods space, I’m usually first and foremost looking for a watch that speaks to a classic, foolproof design. Similar to traditional navy-style tattoo art, there’s a reason why some designs and styles have survived the test of time: they have never stopped working for us. Ironic to search for a watch that is TIMELESS, but puns must be forgiven in the search for the right timepiece.

Nordgreen Unika in Box

Oftentimes, this translates on the design side to mean something simple. I’m looking for trustworthy mechanics, bold metals, intentional textures, and a strap that either holds steady for a lifetime or increases in patina over time and use.

It’s not hard to find a good piece within these perimeters, but it’s the extra attention to detail and functionality that separates my top picks from what you’d find behind the glass counter at the big box store.

With fall and winter style in mind, I want to put a few watch brands on your radar (as well as my favorite of their offerings) that stand out to me as best-in-class options to go along with sweaters and jackets in the cold months.

It’s also worth noting that a classy watch is a great option for gifts as we inch closer to Black Friday and the start of the holiday season. Buckle in and start the clock!

The 4 Best Watch Brands To Wear if You Don’t Want To Go Digital

Nordgreen

Nordgreen is a name I’ve had cross into my periphery a few times since they entered the market in 2017. From a design perspective, Nordgreen nods to the rich Scandinavian history of timekeeping, which speaks directly to what I’m looking for. In their words, they’re marrying “purpose and functionality with the timeless aesthetic appeal.” Bingo.

This fall, Nordgreen has released a Fall/Winter collection that embodies the idea of “Tactile Reminiscence.” Otherwise defined as using the sense of touch to create long-lasting memories. This phenomenon most intimately comes to me through smell or taste (the smell of a lit candle or cookies in the oven ring a bell?) but applying this concept to touch is both fresh and unique while feeling comfortable and close to your own personal experience.

Here are a few watches from their most recent collection that jump out to me:

The Nordgreen Pioneer

Nordgreen Pioneer Watch with Textured Metal Strap

Check Price

The Pioneer model is just about everything I’d expect from a watch that I would plan to hand down to my grandchildren. A modern and minimalist take on the classic chronograph, the Pioneer unclutters what we’re used to in digital timekeeping and returns to the roots of vintage watches from years past.

A bonus perk when it comes to the Pioneer model is that despite the refined appearance, the Pioneer is truly designed to live up to an active lifestyle. With 10 ATM water resistance, you’re good in the water, and domed sapphire glass protects the dial from whatever may come close to it, while also adding a layer of depth to the frontal design that adds a modern flare to a silhouette that has stood the test of time. The Pioneer also employs a Japanese quartz movement system for long-lasting precision.

The real beauty in the Pioneer, though, is the attention to detail when it comes to Nordgreen’s inspiration for their latest collection. The domed glass creates a tactile experience I haven’t experienced at such extremes, balanced by the rigid edges of the included watch strap. I see this paired elegantly in semi-formal attire – perhaps for a late fall wedding, holiday gathering, or academic affair if that’s your speed. That being said, the Pioneer is just as well suited for daily use, blending in nicely with a rugged wardrobe revolving around sweaters, flannels, dark denim, and hearty boots.

Use code NEXTLUXURY to get an extra 10% off your purchase! Nordgreen is currently running Black Friday deals of up to 30% off their watches.

The Nordgreen Unika

Nordgreen Uniqa with silver face and brown leather watch strap on wrist

The Unika timepiece is equally as inspiring as the Pioneer model but with a completely different aesthetic. Truthfully, I had the same response to the sleek, minimal design of the Unika that I initially did with lace-to-toe boots: I was not sure that I’d ever feel like that was a right fit for me until I flipped the switch in my mind. Skinny in nature, I find that the Unika calls extra attention and embellishment to the tattoos on my arms that have cost me thousands over the years. That is always appreciated.

It is also ironic that my thoughts followed the outlined path above, as the inspiration for the Unika revolves around the idea of celebrating open-minded beauty. Only figures that I open my own mind. With each design element rooted in a different story, it’s worth celebrating.

The tactile experience really shines in Nordgreen’s decision to embed discrete crystals in the functional dials. Pulling a physical experience into an otherwise mindless activity when it comes to your watch is a surefire set-up for creating the tactile expectation and memory outlined in their design brief for this collection. Outside of this function, the Unika is all about balance – pay attention to the form of the crown, which appears slightly different from each perspective. Appearing simultaneously playful while grounded at the same time, this one has really caught my eye.

While we have your attention on all things Nordgreen – with the holidays coming up, you should sneak a peek at their recent men’s and women’s jewelry collections. Utilizing the same approach as their signature watches, you’ll find something for everyone on your list – both bold and subtle styles for all occasions.

Use code NEXTLUXURY to get an extra 10% off your purchase! Nordgreen is currently running Black Friday deals of up to 30% off their watches.

Throne Watches

Throne Watches Fragment S1 with gold and brown leather strap

Watches are all about time, and the current collections available from Throne Watches deeply resonate with me on the axis of time and place. Both in aesthetics and inspiration, Throne’s watches speak clearly to me of a pre-pandemic world before the onset of digital marketing as we know it today. Mixing the grit of a few guys in Brooklyn trying to piece it together with heritage design aspects that have tracked with success over the course of modern history.

My favorite from their collection is the classic Fragment S1, which ties back to my initial dreams of finding a watch destined for future generations as much as my own.

Shinola

Shinola Watches 47MM Runwell on Wrist

Shinola has been a huge name in watches for a long, long time. Their track record is hard to beat, on top of a refined approach to construction after many years in the business.

While bigger isn’t always better, it can be helpful to know that a wristwatch purchase comes backed up with a good historical track record. That being said, a Shinola piece comes with a price tag, so I’d be looking for either a really solid daily driver or perhaps something to commemorate a special occasion.

It’s hard to pick favorites from their expansive catalog, but the sharp green tones found in their 47mm Runwell model have caught my eye for a long time. This is one of Shinola’s flagship styles, they’re manufactured in Detroit with parts imported from Switzerland, among other places.

Vortic Watch Co.

Vortic Watch Co THE SPRINGFIELD 544 (46MM)

The header of the Vortic Watches website reads “America wasn’t assembled. It was built.” Vortic, based in Fort Collins, Colorado, bridges the gap between art and function by building one-of-a-kind timepieces here in the United States.

Their unique works of art stem from the idea that the watchmakers of the olden days had it right. Of course, a piece like this comes at a price as well, but I’ve found that taking a look at their collection has helped to jump my memory closer toward the vintage-inspired silhouette of my eventual dreams. It’s hard to pick a favorite here as each piece is one of one. You should look for yourself and see what inspiration you find.

However, the production crew modified the Rolex so much it’s just an expensive prop now. Still, the gorgeous watch stole the show twice in the film. First, the film changed the bezel to a buzzsaw, which Bond uses to cut a rope. At another point, he unzips Mrs. Caruso’s dress using the Rolex’s magnetic power.

Rolex engraved the date and a map of India connecting with Nepal and Afghanistan on the dial. However, the $440,00 Rolex disappeared from the Prasad family watch collection and showed up at the Sotheby’s auction in 2011. The family was able to stop the sale of the watch through petition.

Speaking of the dial, it comes in a rare pie-pan color with baton hour markers resembling golf trees. In 1967, Rolex gifted the timepiece to Nicklaus, and he wore it for the next 50 years during every competition. It’s a simple black watch with glowing hour markers and hands with a golden shine. It doesn’t include the bezel, as Coppola asked Brando to remove it during filming. His wife, Joanna Woodward, gifted the vintage Rolex Daytona to her husband with the engraving, “Drive Slowly, Joanna.” In 2008, Newman’s daughter Clea received the watch as a gift. There’s a reason the Rolex Oyster Cosmograph is called the unicorn. It’s one of the rarest and most expensive Rolex watches in the world. At the time, Rolex made the Daytona with stainless steel, but there are a few exceptions.

The 1970 Rolex Oyster Cosmograph is the only one to feature 18-karat white gold with silver graphics, a black background, and a black sigma dial. The gorgeous watch first appeared in 2013 as part of John Goldberger’s collection. Later, the timepiece sold for an astonishing $5.9 million in 2018. Goldberger donated the money from the sale to the Children Action Foundation.

The sleek and rare Rolex also has 18,000 beats-per-hour movements.

However, the watch is iconic and expensive because of its unique backstory. Newman’s wife, Joanne Woodward, gifted him the Rolex and engraved it with “Drive Carefully Me.” Paul Newman often wore the stunning Rolex while racing and in several films, most notably, in the 1969 movie Winning. It’s easily the most expensive watch sold at an auction.

Patrick Adair Designs Wedding Rings Change the Game With Stardust, Meteorites, Or Mammoth Tooth https://nextluxury.com/mens-style-and-fashion/patrick-adair-designs-wedding-rings/ Thu, 21 Jul 2022 14:00:25 +0000 https://nextluxury.com/?p=276127 …]]> Patrick Adair Designs Weddings rings are truly something I’ve never seen before. It all comes from one man who sought to transform the world of men’s wedding rings from ho-hum to holy f***!

I have to tell you the most insane story ever. Odds are you’ll think it’s bull… well, you won’t believe it.

See, one day I was passing row after row of boring, unimaginative men’s wedding rings…I’d finally had enough!

“Is this it?” I yelled.

“Rows and rows of silver and gold, and that’s all you’ve got?!”

I know, it’s a bit much.

But, from that one jewelry store tirade, I discovered a truly fantastic ring designer named Patrick Adair who transformed all 10 of my fingers (and my life).

Man sitting on motorcycle with silver rings

Failure Of “Modern” Men’s Jewelry

So, after going into several ring shops, I just gave up.

I even went to “alternative” shops with rings that had all sorts of engraving…but it was mostly the same problem.

I wanted a wedding ring that was truly “me.”

If you want plain silver or plain gold, you’re in luck.

If you want something with a personality as unique as mine? You’re screwed!

And no matter where I went, I was facing the same problems:

 • Typical colors
 • No individuality
 • Nothing truly exotic about the rings

I needed something from another planet!

I needed something that inspired me every time I looked at it.

I needed a ring that blew people’s minds every time they saw it…

That’s when someone suggested I take a look at Patrick Adair Designs, and it blew my mind.

First, let me explain how these designs came about and why they’re so special.

Let me explain how Patrick Adair sought to create true works of art for the warrior-poet in all of us.

Unexpected Testimonial

“Once I discovered Patrick Adair Designs, I was hooked. I needed to learn more and get one of my own (at least one!).

But then, I saw someone with a PAD ring that blew my mind… my dad! That’s right, Mr. Corporate himself was wearing the Solid Diamond Glowstone Ring.

I ran up to him at our annual family picnic.

‘Dad, you know Patrick Adair Designs?’

He looked me dead in the eye ‘Son when they made me, they broke the mold. I wear a tie now, but I was a radical in the late 60s.’

I said, ‘Dad, I had no idea.’

‘Yep,’ he said, ‘and this ring glows at night to remind me of who I was and who I am.'”

One More PAD Story

And honestly, I was amazed. I loved it and my now-wife did too: and that’s all that truly matters.

5 Ways Patrick Adair Designs is Reinventing Men’s Rings Using Ancient Materials https://nextluxury.com/mens-style-and-fashion/patrick-adair-designs/ Mon, 18 Jul 2022 15:00:57 +0000 https://nextluxury.com/?p=275683 …]]> Whether it’s hand-forged Damascus steel from Nevada, a fossilized mammoth tooth from Siberia or a meteorite pulled from the Arctic Circle, Patrick Adair Designs is reinventing men’s rings using the most uncommon luxury – and ancient – materials.

1. Draw Your Sword - Or Wear It

Patrick Adair Damascus Steel Ring

In times past, men didn’t go anywhere without a sword by their side. While carrying a sword is no longer an option, you can wear the same steel used to forge them – as a ring. Coveted in history for its sharp edge, beautiful pattern, and durability, Patrick Adair turns Damascus steel to a new purpose in male luxury jewelry. Scratch-resistant, sought-after, and eye-catching, Damascus has long been the metal of kings – worn by you, it still will be.

2. Combine The Earthly With The Interstellar

Patrick Adair Meteorite Rings

We’ve all seen a shooting star, but what if you could wear one?

Patrick Adair brings precious metals formed in the earth together with a resource so ancient that it predates Earth itself – meteorite. Adair sources rare, 100% authentic meteorites in order to craft his rings. No two rings are exactly the same due to each meteorite’s unique composition of metals. This means that you’re guaranteed a one-of-a-kind item that will last. Each ring is a celebration of uniqueness – both of the corner of space it came from and the wearer.

3. Wear The World’s Rarest Resource

Patrick Adair Mammoth Fossil Ring

One of the world’s rarest resources was alive and walking the earth 30,000 years ago – mammoths. Patrick Adair turns their fossilized remains into wearable pieces of history. Ethically sourced from a fossilized mammoth found in the frigid Siberian tundra, the teeth of the goliath are encased in Adair’s patented glowstone. Your ancient ancestors may have held the spears that brought down mammoths – now you can hold a piece of their history in your hands.

4. Forged Using Technique from the Era of Samurai

Patrick Adair Mokune Gane Ring

A samurai’s sword was not only a deadly weapon but a work of art. Now, Patrick Adair uses the same ancient metalworking technique which adorned samurai’s blades to craft mokume gane rings. The mokume gane metalworking technique was invented in 17th century Japan – the Edo Period, or age of the samurai. The intricate wood grain pattern of mokume gane rings speaks to the high level of skill they take to craft. Patrick Adair is determined to help bring this dying art back to life by making it wearable luxury.

5. Choose Your Own Adventure

17 Types of Ear Piercings https://nextluxury.com/mens-style-and-fashion/types-of-ear-piercings/ Thu, 23 Jun 2022 19:00:11 +0000 https://nextluxury.com/?p=273651 …]]> Ear piercing is a trend that dates back several centuries. Nowadays, everyone loves to get a piercing, from world-famous celebrities to regular people looking for a change. The ear is a small body part but can carry a lot of weight. Indeed, there are several different types of ear piercings. They break down into three basic categories.

First, there’s the common lobe piercing, including transverse and standard lobe piercing. Lobe piercings are commonly the least painful of the three. In addition, using a needle hurts less than a piercing gun.

When it comes to pain, a cartilage piercing will make you jump out of your seat. However, fashion icons never let a little pain stand in their way. The pain varies depending on a person’s threshold and the location of the piercing. Outer ear piercings include the forward helix piercing, snug piercing, industrial piercing, auricle piercing, and tragus piercing.

Lastly, the third type of piercing is the inner ear piercing, including the daith piercing, outer conch piercing, helix piercing, rook piercing, orbital piercing, and anti-tragus piercing. It doesn’t matter which types of piercings a person chooses. They’re all trendsetting and unique. It’s wise to check out an ear-piercing chart before getting a piercing.

1. Standard Lobe Piercing

Standard Lobe Piercing

Xpose Tattoos/YouTube

The standard lobe piercings are the piercings that started it all. Indeed, the classic piercings are usually a person’s first one. Certainly, a person never forgets their first. The standard lobe piercing is an essential and simple method. It’s in the bottom part of the ear lobe. It’s not entirely painless, but it’s not on the pain level of the others. The pain often lasts up to six weeks, but the style goes on forever. It’s a simple yet elegant piercing. It goes perfectly with studs or hoops for all occasions.

2. Transverse Lobe Piercing

Transverse Lobe Piercing

Javichín/YouTube

Ear piercings have become more creative over the years. There was a time when two earrings were a big deal. Now, it’s common for a person to have multiple earnings. The transverse lobe piercing is a new twist on the classic lobe piercing. In this case, the earring goes horizontally through the skin of the ear of the bottom lobe. It might seem incredibly painful, but it’s the polar opposite. There’s almost no pain involved in this unique piercing. It’s a creative style that’s memorable and distinctive.

3. Forward Helix Piercing

The most influential trendsetters in history have the elegant looking forward helix piercing. It’s in one of the ear’s most unique and painful spots. Regardless, it’s an excellent location for earrings. The forward helix piercing is at the top of the outer rim of the lower ear cartilage. Therefore, it causes great pain and might be the worse spot for an ear piercing. To be clear, it’s the worst spot for pain. In terms of fashion, it’s in the best spot.

4. Snug Piercing

Snug Piercing

Nick Piercing/YouTube

The snug piercing is in a unique location on the ear. It’s a small spot, but the right earring can shine brightly. The snug piercing is on the inner part of the cartilage near the ear canal. It’ll take some tiny jewelry to fill up the spot. The snug piercing is small but leaves a lasting impact. It complements the nearby piercings, including the rook and daith piercings. However, it’s an excellent earring for those rocking multiple piercings.

5. Industrial Piercing

Industrial piercings are usually two or more piercings through the upper part of the cartilage. It’s a distinctive piercing that stands out among the rest. It’s common to wear barbell earrings that connect the forward helix with the helix. It’s a popular style and works well with multiple earrings. There might be a bit of pain, but the style is worth it. Celebrities usually rock the style when attending major awards shows or walking the red carpet.

6. Auricle Piercing

Auricle Piercing

YouTube/FreshTrends Fine Body Jewelry

The auricle piercing is a painful process with a longer recovery time. The piercing is on the outer ear cartilage, a sensitive part of the ear. It’s uncommon to see many people rocking the auricle piercing style. Regardless, the earrings are a striking and unique look. It’s also the type of piercing that works with multiple earrings. In other words, the severe pain is worth the exceptional style.

7. Tragus Piercing

The tragus piercing is one of the most painful types of ear piercings. Of course, the pain is worth the stellar earrings in the most distinctive spot. It’s the inner portion of the cartilage above the ear lobe and in front of the ear canal. It might be painful, but it looks great. It’s the type of earring that goes with any look, whether fancy or casual. It’s one of the most popular types of piercings partly due to its unique location.

8. Simple Ear Piercing

simple-ear-piercing

thats_peachyttv/YouTube

There’s no wrong way to get an ear piercing. The concept has been around for thousands of generations. It comes in many forms and different styles. One of the most popular versions is the simple ear piercing. The piercing can be on any part of the ear, but the key is to keep it minimal. A simple ear piercing doesn’t focus on any one part of the ear. It also works best with fewer earrings. For instance, one pierced ear is the perfect simple piercing. It’s a more elegant approach using plain gold and silver.

9. Unique Ear Piercing

Unique Ear Piercing

fashion & Style/YouTube

In the last few decades, ear-piercing has exploded in popularity. It’s not uncommon for one innocent ear lobe piercing to lead to the whole earring experience. Unique ear piercings are the opposite of the simple approach. The style works best with multiple earrings and colors. The key to a unique ear piercing is experimenting with different jewelry and styles.

10. Double Ear Piercing

Double Ear Piercing

One of the most common forms of piercings is the famous double ear piercing. The double piercing is two holes next to each other on the cartilage or the lobe. It’s a simple concept that started gaining traction in the 80s. The double piercing is a popular style that goes perfectly with two studs or hoops. It’s not as complex as the other piercings. The piercing can go on any part of the ear, including the helix, tragus, and outer conch. It’s perfect for someone looking to get more piercings.

11. Full Ear Piercing

Full Ear Piercing

There are several different options for ear piercings. It all depends on what a person wants. They could choose a standard lobe piercing, a helix piercing, or a rook piercing. Another option is to combine each of these great piercings. Most people start at the lobe but soon are rocking multiple earrings in one ear. It’s actually quite common to get the full earring experience. Full ear piercings are becoming more popular than double piercings. It’s an in-demand trend with celebrities who love combining the various styles.

12. Helix Piercing

Helix Piercing

Xpose Tattoos/YouTube

The helix piercing is one of the most popular types of piercings. It has an eye-catching and distinctive look that sticks out in a crowd. The helix piercing is on the upper part of the cartilage. Despite being on the sensitive part of the ear, it’s not as painful since they use a small needle. It’s also a style that’s perfect for double piercings. It’s a hugely popular fashion that works independently or as part of multiple piercings.

13. Outer Conch Piercing

The best piercings are the ones that are unique and stand out. That’s one of the reasons the outer conch piercing is a good choice. It’s not in a common spot but is the perfect location for fashion icons looking to break the internet. The conch piercing is between the canal and the outer part of the ear. It has various styles, including inner studs and cuffs.

14. Daith Piercing

Daith Piercing

Mercy/YouTube

The best ear piercings come with a bit of pain. The daith piercing is in a sensitive spot that requires some recovery time. Piercings around the helix are always tough to get through. Regardless, it’s the perfect area for stunning earrings. The daith piercing is part of the cartilage by the tragus and at the end of the helix. It’s an impressive spot for a piercing, and anyone that endures the pain earns their earrings. Apparently, the location of the piercing also helps reduces intense headaches.

15. Rook Piercing

For years, trendsetters have been finding new places to put earrings. They even started expanding to body piercings and nose piercings. Of course, they eventually returned to the ear and found a tiny new spot. The rook piercing is on a small space on the inner section of the ear cartilage. It’s on the other side of the snug piercing. It’s the perfect type of piercing for people wanting something different. It also works with several different earrings, including studs and barbells.

16. Orbital Piercing

Orbital Piercing

Sometimes it’s tough to stop after one piercing. It’s a cool look that works on many different levels. No matter how many earrings a person has, they’re always looking for new ear piercings. The orbital piercing is excellent for anyone looking to take it to the next level. The orbital piercing is two holes in the same spot. Many people wear two identical earrings next to each other, but there’s another choice. The idea is to use the two holes to loop an earring through them. It’s a popular style that’s popping up with celebrities more often.

17. Anti-Tragus Piercing

Anti-Tragus Piercing

The anti-tragus piercing is one of the most painful spots for an earring. It’ll hurt, but it’s more than worth it. Anyone with a unique fashion sense would love this piercing. The anti-tragus piercing is on the small piece of cartilage next to the ear lobe and opposite the tragus. It’s a small spot for a tiny earring, but it works perfectly. It’s a steller ear piercing that works best with multiple earrings.

The World’s Top 5 Most Sustainable Watches That Are Changing the Watch Game https://nextluxury.com/mens-style-and-fashion/sustainable-watches/ Wed, 27 Apr 2022 15:00:01 +0000 https://nextluxury.com/?p=270862 …]]> Sustainability is becoming a major issue in the world of consumerism and one that is beginning to impact the watch market. More and more people are concerned about the environment and are looking to purchase eco-friendly products. Many watch manufacturers understand they need to get with the times and are crafting modern timepieces that not only look incredible but are also environmentally friendly.

What Is a Sustainable Watch?

There are a number of factors that contribute to a watch being sustainable. The first concerns the method of construction. Sustainable watches are produced in factories and warehouses with high standards that follow all the correct ethical procedures. Next, are the materials used to craft the watches. Many brands will use recycled or non-conflict materials in the creation of their watches. The third thing to look out for is the quality of the timepiece. It should have a long shelf life, have a luxurious look, and be affordable.

Sustainable timepieces also use minimal packaging that is recyclable. Many also participate in giving back programs where they donate proceeds from every watch sold to various environmental charities.

What Are the Best Sustainable Watch Brands?

This is a good question. As more and more people are becoming concerned with the environment, they are looking for alternative products that are sustainable. While many of the big watchmakers are slowly coming around to sustainable products, it is the small independent companies that are really making a difference. The likes of Scandinavian brand Nordgreen and Montreal company Solios are leading the way when it comes to suitable and eco-friendly watches.

To help you make an educated decision when it comes to purchasing a sustainable watch, here are five of the best on the market.

Nordgreen has done a ton of research in the creation of this watch, teaming together with the technology department of a Danish university to come up with the world’s most sustainable watch. From an environmental perspective, Nordgreen claim the Guardian is “the next best thing to not wearing a watch.” After wearing one it is hard to disagree.

The Guardian is crafted from the highest quality sustainable materials, with the case, case back, and strap made from 85% recycled stainless steel, the dial from painted brass, and the glass covering the watch face from sapphire crystal. The Guardian is also Nordgreen’s first automatic watch, powered by the Miyota Caliber 9039 movement that uses no batteries or power supply, helping make its carbon footprint extremely low.

This timepiece is a game-changer in the watch industry. No other brand is putting as much research and emphasis into sustainable products as Nordgreen, with the Guardian the fruit of their labors. Not only is it made following ethical procedures and using sustainable materials, but the finished product is incredible. This luxury watch has a three-level dial, and a contemporary brushed metal case and is waterproof up to 100 meters.

This is a watch aimed at those who are passionate about the well-being of the planet and who want to do their bit to preserve the environment. It is a way for eco-friendly watch lovers to own a timepiece that reflects their views while also looking spectacular on their wrist. When it comes to sustainable watches that look good, it is hard to go past Nordgreen’s Guardian.

Gucci Wallet vs Ridge Wallet Comparison: What’s the Real Difference? https://nextluxury.com/mens-style-and-fashion/gucci-wallet-vs-ridge-wallet/ Thu, 07 Apr 2022 15:00:29 +0000 https://nextluxury.com/?p=268438 …]]> In the world of wallets, there are several big names synonymous with luxury—Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Givenchy, Montblanc, and Armani, just to name a few. And while all these brands have decades of runway shows and celebrity endorsements behind them, there’s one important quality they lack: real-world grit.

Ridge Wallet vs. Gucci Wallet

Ridge wallets offer the same premium construction as designer items with an added dose of rugged flair. The military-grade materials last far longer than the delicate leather construction of high fashion wallets, and the built-in RFID-blocking technology brings your cardholder into the 21st century by preventing wireless theft.

The reasonable price point, lifetime warranty policy, and easy customization of Ridge wallets are just the icing on the cake.

Let’s take a look at how Ridge wallets stack up against one of the most recognizable and renowned brands in fashion: Gucci. In this Ridge wallet vs. Gucci wallet showdown, we’ll cover everything from production materials to counterfeit card holders so you get the full picture of how luxury products compare to quality all-American construction. Use the table of contents below or simply scroll down to learn more—you might be surprised by what you find.

Why Is Gucci so Expensive?

While it’s true that Gucci uses quality materials, employs top-notch designers, and creates pioneering new looks in the fashion world, these tangible explanations for the high price point pale in comparison to one simple reason: status.

Anyone who can afford to sport the famous GG logo on their wallet, bag, or clothes is establishing themselves as part of an elite group with excessive amounts of wealth that isn’t attainable for the majority of people. Status symbols like a Gucci wallet convey exclusivity, refinement, and access to celebrity spaces. And the only way to maintain that exclusivity is to create a barrier through outrageously high prices.

When comparing Gucci wallets vs Ridge wallets in this realm, it’s abundantly clear that the lower price point of Ridge wallets conveys our company’s core value of attainability over elitism. The Ridge believes that everyone deserves to have quality items in their pockets no matter their net worth.

Well-made wallets shouldn’t be reserved for the upper crust of society and flaunt the ever-increasing disparity between the haves and have-nots; functional, durable, and reliable accessories are a necessity for everyone to move through modern life with ease. Ridge wallets for men and women promise the same caliber of construction as Gucci wallets without the snobby layer of exclusivity sewn into the seams.

What Is a Gucci Wallet Made Of?

Gucci wallets are typically made out of leather, suede, or cloth and feature metal accents depending on the design. While these materials look chic at first glance, they are much harder to keep clean and undamaged as time goes on.

When comparing Gucci vs Ridge wallets in regards to their longevity, the designer brand doesn’t hold up. Water damage and heat exposure can warp or stain the fabric casing, and metal clasps can break or fall off after frequent use. If you want your cardholder to last for many years to come and are wondering which wallet is right for you, look no further than the sturdy designs of The Ridge.

Is a Gucci Wallet Worth It?

If name-brand recognition is important to you, then a Gucci wallet may be worth it. But if you want your everyday accessories to be long-lasting, efficient, and ergonomic in addition to aesthetically pleasing, this high-end cardholder is probably pointless.

When you break down Ridge wallets vs Gucci wallets in terms of their construction, materials, holding capacity, and durability, the Ridge wins out in terms of its everyday usability. The only area that Gucci dominates is the increased cultural capital that the famous GG logo brings to their products.

How Do I Avoid Counterfeit Wallets?

Counterfeit Gucci wallets are a huge problem for the fashion giant because when there’s a higher demand for products than supply, black market replicas are easy to find. If you want to avoid counterfeit Gucci wallets, you should only purchase one directly from a Gucci store and not from a third-party seller.

Better yet, don’t buy a brand that is notoriously ripped off by counterfeit producers! While Ridge wallets don’t carry the same cultural capital as a Gucci wallet, the likelihood of purchasing a counterfeit Ridge cardholder is much lower. When exclusivity is taken out of the equation, there’s no need to create a false item to sell at a lower price point. The Ridge stands out for its exceptional quality and not just a flashy logo.

What Is a Ridge Wallet?

Ridge wallets are built for the minimalist who wants to maximize efficiency. The sleek silhouette fits neatly into small pockets and expands to hold up to twelve cards so you always have your most essential items at your fingertips. The rugged casing is forged from either aluminum, carbon fiber, or titanium to create a cardholder that can withstand the wear and tear of everyday use without weighing down your pockets.

Ridget Wallet Comparison to Standard Bifold Wallet

If aesthetics are important to you, our wallets are available in dozens of eye-catching colors and patterns. The cherry on top? You can choose how to store your loose bills with an interchangeable cash strap and money clip that allow you to store banknotes in any way that you like (check out our post on how to use a money clip).

In the Ridge vs Gucci debate, Ridge wallets win hands-down in terms of their longevity. Most Gucci products are sold with the disclaimer that they should be kept out of the sun, rain, and heat and stored in a special box when not being actively used.

Ridge wallets don’t require such precious handling and are designed to withstand any obstacle that life throws your way. So when you want a premium minimalist wallet without the hoity-toity fanfare, The Ridge has everything you need and more.

Carbon Fiber vs Leather Wallets

Even though Ridge wallets are constructed out of several different materials, carbon fiber remains our most popular choice for the outer casing—unlike Gucci’s traditionally leather-bound wallets. Let’s take a closer look at the pros and cons of the two most common wallet materials to shed more light on the Gucci vs Ridge wallet debate.

The Ridge Wallet Carbon Fiber Chase V

Carbon Fiber Pros:

 • Virtually indestructible. This military-grade material is frequently used by aerospace engineers and formula one race car designers because of its incredible tensile strength.
 • Resistant to corrosion and damage. The tight carbon-carbon bonds of the woven fibers make them resistant to oxidation so that saltwater, harsh chemicals, and extreme heat can’t damage them.
 • Won’t weigh down your pocket. Despite the incredible strength it possesses, carbon fiber is an ultra-lightweight material due to its low density of the fibers. It weighs less than other common wallet materials such as aluminum or steel.
 • It’s vegan. No animals are harmed in the creation of carbon fiber.

Carbon Fiber Cons:

 • Fewer aesthetic options. While carbon fiber can be dyed different colors, its distinctive woven cross-hatch pattern is hard to disguise if that isn’t your style.

Gucci Ophidia Wallet - White Leather Interior

Leather Pros:

 • Aesthetically pleasing. Fine leather goods have an old-world luxury to them that is hard to replicate in other materials. For some people, the optics of a leather wallet outweigh the quality of the construction.
 • Soft to the touch. Premium leather is silky smooth and feels buttery soft under your fingers, making it a pleasant material to handle on a daily basis.

Leather Cons:

 • Prone to damage. While leather is known for being long-lasting, it’s still prone to water damage, fading from too much light exposure, and cracking if not cared for in a delicate manner.
 • Durable, but not indestructible. Most leather wallets last no more than 10 years, as opposed to the lifetime guarantee of a carbon fiber wallet.
 • Heavy in your pocket. Leather is much denser than carbon fiber and can easily add unnecessary heft to your everyday items.
 • Not vegan. Leather products inherently mean that an animal had to die in order for you to own that item, which is something you may be morally opposed to.

Final Takeaways: Gucci Wallet vs Ridge Wallet

Ridge Wallet - All Minimalist Wallet Options

There’s no denying the appeal of owning a Gucci wallet as a status symbol—but at the end of the day, the famous Italian fashion house doesn’t have much else to boast about. Their delicate materials, risk of counterfeits, and absurd price point sway the Gucci wallet vs Ridge wallet debate in favor of the rugged Ridge cardholders.

When you care about function over flash, Ridge wallets are a surefire accessory to keep your pockets organized and personal items easy to use. Ditch the bulky bi-fold and switch to a minimalist wallet that will help you carry less so you can live more.
